Job description

POSITION: Residential Associate Director

POSITION SUMMARY: To work in close cooperation with the Cottage Therapist(s) to provide leadership and direction to the treatment team. Plan, organize and coordinate a therapeutic program and environment. Provide direct supervision to clients and Specialized Service Providers. Demonstrate efficient and qualitative management skills with programming for emotionally disturbed adolescent clients with broad spectrums of mental illness, autistic spectrum disorders, and/or developmental delays.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

1. Assist the Residential Director in planning, coordinating and organizing the delivery of treatment services to the clients.

2. Assist in hiring and termination process of Mental Health Technicians.

3. Provide direct supervision, training and evaluations to respective staff.

4. Ensure the efficient training of staff and supervise their implementation of skills regarding the medical, educational, recreational, treatment, and leisure time segments of the program.

5. Oversee the treatment process with therapists and Mental Health Technicians to provide the following:

a. Orientation program.

b. Implementation of treatment strategies.

c. Intervention techniques.

d. Behavioral programming.

e. Initial and ongoing training specific to the needs of the clients (trauma informed care, Ziggurat Model, rage cycle, etc.)

6. Participate in Meetings:

a. Attend and take minutes at the Supervisors’ Meeting

b. Attend, facilitate, and take minutes or designee at the Cottage Team Meeting

c. Lead resident on-cottage meetings

d. Participate in staffing as requested by the Therapist

e. Other meetings as requested by supervisor.

7. Participate in assessment interviews.

8. Participate in and lead in-service training when requested.

9. Be on call for cottages as assigned, and share, on a rotating basis, supervisor-on-duty responsibilities for the campus.

10. Follow the agency and licensing body’s policies/procedures.

11. Participate in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training and successfully pass both the written and physical test.

12. Be physically capable of successfully performing physically skilled interventions without injuring

the client, yourself or other staff members. Readily give direction and guidance in crisis situations.

13. Have the stamina and endurance to keep up with a group of very active adolescents, both physically and emotionally for eight or more hours per day.

14. Maintain regular contact with all staff members of the service with a goal to spend up to 50 percent of available time in this manner.

15. If necessary be responsible for covering Mental Health Technicians shifts if staff is not available.

16. Assume additional duties as assigned by supervisor to ensure quality service delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Five years of experience providing direct care to clients in a residential treatment center or other type of treatment facility, or a bachelor’s degree in the social services field.

2. Demonstrated skills in behavior programs with client and staff.

3. Demonstrated skills in providing supervision and leadership.

4. Understanding of and/or demonstrated experience working with populations of youth with developmental disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder, mental illness, and multiple disabilities. Previous training in Ziggurat Model, Rage Cycle, and Trauma Informed Care is highly desired. Understanding and implementation of Behavioral Analysis is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS (“EHR”) AND PRODUCTIVITY

1. Be proficient in the use of the agency’s Electronic Health Record system. This includes being both accurate and “timely* with the data entry required for EHR. Skills in using a desktop PC, laptop, or tablet are essential.

2. Enter client goals, treatment objectives, and notes in the EHR system.

3. Enter accurately and timely the information required for the agency to bill for services.

4. Be able to understand and effectively use reporting information provided by the EHR system.

  • Timely defined as “data entry completed simultaneously in work with clients or within 24 business hours of work activity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work involves some standing, walking, running, lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy loads and sitting.

Walking, standing, and driving are frequent requirements. A Supervisor must be mentally and physically capable of working in an environment with very aggressive adolescent clients who may attempt to physically attack and/or intimidate staff members and Supervisors. Supervisors must be physically capable of being physically active for eight or more hours per day. Pressure is moderate to stressful.

A physical abilities test is required to ensure the Supervisor is physically capable of performing a successful

physical restraint within the guidelines specified by Cornell University’s TCI Training Course and or performing physically skilled interventions without injuring the client him/her self, or other staff members, and to ensure the Supervisor has the stamina and endurance to be physically active for eight or more hours per day.
