Hourly Compensation Rate:$20.80

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the Group Teacher, the Assistant Teacher assists in providing direct early childhood educational services to children between the ages of two (2) months and five (5) years of age. She/he is responsible for the supervision and management of all assigned children. The Assistant Teacher interacts directly with the children and models appropriate adult-child interactions for parents.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist Teacher in maintaining a positive, developmentally appropriate, safe and healthy learning environment.
• Assist in implementing weekly lesson plans developed by the Teacher.
• Actively participate in individual and group child activities.
• Assist in the daily set up, break down and cleaning of the classroom. 
• Assist in serving of all daily snacks and meals for assigned children. 
• Participate in all classroom trips and outings.
• Maintain proper inventory and functioning of all classroom materials and children supplies.
• Provide direct supervision of residents assigned to the childcare job function.
• Attend all required in-service training seminars, staff meetings, on and off-site case conferences.
• Participate in quality improvement activities.
• Other relevant duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate, working towards CDA certificate required.
2. High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience working with children required.
3. Associates Degree and one (1) year of experience working with children preferred.
4. CPR/First Aid Certification required, if candidate does not have certification, must be able to acquire them within 30 days of employment.
5. NYS Central Registry Check and fingerprint clearance required.
6. Knowledge of NYC Department of Health regulations and codes.
7. Must be able to lift small children.
8. Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs).
