Oak View Group is Hiring a Cook | Part-Time| Iowa Events Center & Wells Fargo Arena Near Des Moines, IA

Overview

The Cook is responsible for preparing menu items utilizing cooking equipment in a fast-paced environment. The Cook must adhere to high food quality standards to ensure guest satisfaction. Portion control, food waste and sanitation are additional areas that the Cook must be aware of while operating in the kitchen.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $19 to $22.00.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the delivery of food to designated function areas
  • Assists with cooking (firing) of food products utilizing a variety of equipment: convection ovens, fryers, steamers, among others
  • Assists with preparation of hot sauces and soups
  • Follow a prep list created by chefs for planned duties
  • Prepare cooking ingredients
  • Prepare and plate dishes as directed such as salads, entrees and desserts
  • Ensure proper storage of all food
  • Maintains a positive and compliant employee relations climate
  • Ensures compliance with health, sanitation, safety and employment regulations by clearly communicating standards and procedures to all staff
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen for the food and beverage operation
  • Communicate and positively interact with diverse personalities, including co-workers and purveyors in a variety of work situations
  • Frequently works independently or with small teams on a variety of specific, detail oriented projects
  • Assists supervisors and chefs in overseeing staff in specific situations

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Possess valid food handling certificate if required by state and federal regulations.
  • Previous experience or training in food preparation or other related kitchen experience required
  • Detail oriented, ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to be self-directed while working in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and long hours
