The Team You’ll Work With

The Office is the intergovernmental liaison between City government and the Federal government and

is responsible for presenting the City's interests to the Congress and the Executive Branch.

The Problems You’ll Solve

As a member of the Intergovernmental Affairs senior team, the Director will:

  • Manage external relations with the New York City Congressional Delegation, White House and

Federal Agencies

  • Manage legislative portfolios and responsibilities with Federal Affairs staff
  • In coordination with the Mayor’s IGA Office, provide response to inquiries and requests from federal

partners.

  • Advocate for policies benefitting New York city on the federal level:
  • Secure federal grants, make comments on legislation and manage federal appropriations
  • Prepare talking points, presentations, and briefings for the Mayor, Deputy Mayors and other key

staff, as well as for external stakeholders, and coordinate outreach and special events;

  • Create strategic plans and to advocate for federal policies and new initiatives, raise awareness about

policies, and engage stakeholders and the general public;

  • Monitor, research, and distribute relevant federal updates to IGA staff; and
  • Track and archive all engagement relevant to the Federal Legislative Affairs Office.

About You

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, required; plus a minimum of ten years of

relevant experience in intergovernmental affairs, communications, and outreach;

  • Excellent ability to exhibit professional demeanor in a fast paced and high-pressure work

environment and to maintain a rapid response approach;

  • Excellent verbal, written and editing skills, including experience writing press releases, media

advisories and talking points;

  • Outstanding attention to detail and strong ability to prioritize and manage a wide array of projects to

completion, often under tight deadlines;

  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills; and
  • Broad experience working with the federal government and national allies is preferred, particularly

on issues related to appropriations.

Salary

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive

salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role

is $150,000 to $178,000.

factors.
