Job Description

Job Description

The Quality Director will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating quality management systems. They will formulate quality control policies, procedures and production efforts and ensure compliance with regulations and standard operating procedures by planning and coordinating with production on processes.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain standards in compliance of FDA/GMP/SQF regulations and remain up-to-date on the latest changes and standards.
  • Build, implement and oversee a uniform Quality Management System to be utilized throughout the organization; developing quality improvements, including validation systems and documentation.
  • Develop strategies and translate these into realistic projects utilizing Quality as well as Manufacturing resources.
  • Monitor performance of the Quality Management System to ensure effectiveness and efficiency and develop corrective actions based on relevant audit observations.
  • Develop and maintain proactive communication with all applicable departments regarding quality standards, anticipating future requirements and interpreting customer expectations.
  • Oversee quality related issues as they impact manufactured products, utilized raw materials and analytical testing to assure released products possess the required quality, and conformance to established specifications.
  • Produce reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, daily production quality, root cause analyses, or quality trends.
  • Participate in the development of product specifications.
  • Review statistical studies, technological advances, or regulatory standards and trends to stay abreast of issues in the field of quality control.
  • Identify critical points in the manufacturing process and specify sampling procedures to be used at these points.
  • Create and implement inspection and testing criteria or procedures.
  • Oversee workers including supervisors, inspectors, or laboratory workers engaged in testing activities.
  • Complete staff assessments and salary reviews as required ensuring competencies are maintained.
  • Promote and implement staff training, motivation and personnel improvements.
  • Identify quality problems or areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain trademark/patent applications and IP protection.
  • Work with SQF and Production in preparation of internal audits (FDA/SQF/USDA).

  • Prior supervisory experience and proven ability to lead and build successful team.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree, preferably Animal or Food Science or related field. Advanced degree in science field or MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years in Quality or QA related field in a management or director role.
  • Food industry manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
  • HACCP Certified
  • SQF Knowledge
