Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by being responsible for oversight of the day-to-day activities of the financial affairs office. Responsible for making sure the University's bills are paid timely, general ledger transactions are up-to-date and accurate, and financial systems and controls are operating efficiently and effectively.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the daily transactional activity of the financial affairs office.
  • Oversees the payment, transactional, and account reconciliation processes.
  • Supervises a Grant Accountant, Accounts Payable Clerk, and Accounting Assistant
  • Indirectly supervises processing of non-student deposits.
  • Oversees the chart of accounts, approval queues and Banner finance user access, ACH module.
  • Exhibits knowledge of internal controls and automated accounting systems.
  • Provides training and support for Banner finance users.
  • Provides technical advice and service to staff and provide advice on complex accounting matters to department and/or university staff.
  • Reviews, prepares, and processes accounting transaction related entries of moderate complexity.
  • Works with the IT department on testing and troubleshooting of Banner and other finance IT support systems.
  • Acts as administrator for non-Banner finance support systems (ie. Online banking, procurement and travel card systems, Nelnet Commerce Manager, credit card merchant accounts).
  • Assists in audits and prepare PBC workpapers.
  • Prepares or oversees preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Initiates or approves online banking transactions.
  • Manages implementation of special projects as assigned.

  • Assesses the performance of direct reports and provides frequent feedback to optimize their performance.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field. Equivalent combination of education and related work experience may substitute.
  • Three to five years of job related experience.
  • Ability to operate a 10-key adding machine by touch.
  • Efficient and accurate data entry skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Ellucian Banner or similar integrated software experience required.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with limited supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) & interpretation skills.
  • Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
  • Work some evening or weekend hours.
