Northern Children's Services is Hiring a Controller Near Philadelphia, PA

Job Details

Job Location: NCS Philadelphia - Philadelphia, PA
Salary Range: Undisclosed

General Summary

The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The Controller Will assist the CFO with the overall fiscal operations of Northern Children’s Services. Duties include but are not limited to: Ensuring and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures and to assist in providing accurate and timely financial statements to be reviewed by the Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors monthly.

Work is performed in accordance with established GAAP and Company regulations, policies and procedures, but employees are expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the accurate and timely posting and reporting of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, and Payroll allocations.
  2. Ensures appropriate financial reporting procedures and controls to ensure timely and accurate flow of financial information.
  3. Assist in the development and implementation of agency financial policies.
  4. Assist in the coordination of the annual independent audit to ensure timeliness and detailed accuracy of annual audited financial statements.
  5. Provide financial and data analysis to evaluate company ventures or special projects and programs, etc. when necessary.
  6. Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks / balances across the entire agency.
  7. Ensure compliance with funding agreements, state and federal laws and regulations as applicable to fiscal issues.
  8. Assist the Chief Financial Officer and the President/CEO with financial matters and all other duties as assigned.
  9. Reconcile Bank accounts monthly.
  10. Conduct appropriate internal audits to maintain fiscal integrity and proper internal controls.
  11. Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of information for budgets and other information requested by funding agencies.
  12. Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of policy and procedures of the finance department.
  13. Assist in the development and review of all corporate revenue and expense allocation procedures and calculations.
  14.  Assist in integration of electronic health records, (EHR), Credible, Abila MIP and Quick Books accounting software, and payroll processing software.
  15. The need of working and collaborating with the Billing Specialist and Billing Manager as a Team.

Equipment and Working Conditions

All materials and necessary equipment to perform job function are provided. Staff members may be transferred if it has been decided to be in the best interest of the agency and will enhance services provided.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge in all functions of the general Ledger and nonprofit accounting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Systems and software used by the agency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff when dealing in financial matters.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with agency staff, outside agencies, auditors and vendors.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Accounting, and all other related software and the willingness to learn and implement any new technologies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain a sophisticated record system, utilize time management and organize work.
  • Ability to effectively maintain quality work in the Fiscal department.

Job Path

This individual will be evaluated on an annual basis (please refer to the Personnel Policy Manual.) Salary increases and promotions will be based upon quality of performance, seniority and length of experience. If it is brought to the attention of the Chief Financial Officer or President/CEO that this individual has become ineffective in executing his/her responsibilities; the agency reserves the right to terminate employment.

Minimum Requirement


Minimum Requirement

Education: Bachelor’s Degree is required. Preferably in accounting.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years experience in accounting position.

Substitutions: Appropriate substitutions may be made for an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Two (2) years experience = One (1) year education and training.
