Job Summary :
As Controller, you will supervise all finance and accounting staff responsible for the multi-entity bookkeeping as well as the processes used to ensure the overall accuracy of TierView financial statements across both the operating companies and the many property entities it manages. The Controller will prepare and examine financial statements, ensure records are accurate, bills are paid, and all income and expenses are property tracked. The Controller is also accountable for financial audits, reconciling accounts, ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, and providing strategic input on cash flow planning and analysis.
The Controller will work within current practices but will not shy away from tackling problems with a fresh perspective. They will be expected to continue and then refine the best practices used in the execution of routine bookkeeping practices. The Controller will be instrumental in the creation of retrospective reporting and prospective budgeting and forecasts used by ownership for crucial business decisions.
Responsibilities:
Financial Operations
o Develop and maintain financial accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
o Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, ensuring all accounts are properly reconciled.
o Prepare complex journal entries and account analyses.
o Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
o Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
o Manage cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds for operations.
o Diligent and accurate data sourcing, entry, and organization
o Credit card reconciliation
o Tracking and posting loan draws, payments, interest charges.
o Inter-Entity transaction tracking and reconciliation
Financial Reporting and Analysis
o Leadership in improving reporting practices for both internal as well as investor reporting.
o Comply with financial reporting requirements and tax filings for multiple entities.
o Assess and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities
Budgeting and Forecasting
o Develop budgeting and forecasting practices for operating companies as well as property entities.
o Create accurate cash flow projections and annual budgets in coordination with the management team.
o Evaluate financial performance against goals and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
o Monitor budgets and expenditures to ensure sound financial controls are in place.
Team Leadership
o Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals and foster the growth of their skill sets.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
· 7 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 5 years in a management role
· Extensive knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook; and Adobe Acrobat
· Technologically adept with understanding of accounting software systems, (QuickBooks and/or AppFolio experience a plus)
· Tenacity to see projects through to completion.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to exercise independent judgment while respecting company standards and policies.
· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
· High level of accuracy and attention to detail
