Description of Work

About the Division of Public Health:

The NC Division of Public Health (DPH) works to promote and contribute to the highest possible level of health for the people of North Carolina – Everywhere, Everyday, Everybody.

Summary:

The IT Division Support team provides computer support to DHHS employees, mainly on Six Forks campus. Employees utilize LANDesk, and any other tools or technologies designated by DHHS IT management, to provide technical support of hardware, applications, operating systems, and networking equipment.

This position is to provide end user computing support duties that may include but are not limited to:

  • Integration, diagnosis and break-fix,
  • Build and deploy PC’s and peripheral equipment
  • Complete software installations
  • User account management
  • Respond to and resolve customer incidents and requests(tickets) in a timely manner
  • Maintain security standards

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
  • Knowledge of computer technology, applications, operating systems, and the capabilities and limitations of computer and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to understand operations and organize components into a logical system.
  • Knowledge of networking, Internet, communication standards and protocols, and personal computers including imaging technologies.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory administration, installation, configuration, and service and support.
  • Experience with Outlook, Windows Operating System, Printers, and Anti-Virus applications.
  • Knowledge and experience in overall network management and multiplatform hardware/software support.
  • Proficient in software applications and ability to adapt to changing business needs as required to resolve compatibility and/or functional issues relating to operations and to further enhance troubleshooting techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand operations and organize components into a logical system
  • Demonstrate attention to details and accuracy.
Management Preferences:
  • Ability to work with a variety of personnel that have differing levels of technical knowledge.
Physical Requirements:
  • Routine physical effort with work conducted in an office environment.
  • Ability to move and lift equipment 50 pounds of hardware equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role;
OR
Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role;
OR
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
