North Carolina Dept of Health and Human Services is Hiring a General Utility Worker Near Wake, NC

Description of Work

Position is assigned to the General Trades Shop within DHHS - Central Regional Maintenance on the Dorothea Dix Campus/Governor Morehead School Campus in Raleigh, NC.
Position will perform a wide variety of general building maintenance and facility support functions which will include:

  • installation of miscellaneous office furnishings; assembly/disassembly of office cubicle systems;
  • Assemble various types of office equipment and furniture; repair/install window treatments;
  • Assemble new equipment; and move furniture and office equipment to relocate offices; power wash buildings and structures;
  • Install/repair campus road signs.
Position is an essential position and will be required to report to work during periods of adverse weather and may be required to report for duty during emergency callback conditions and assigned on-call rotation.
About the DHHS Office of Property & Construction:
The Division of Property and Construction provides maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds services for the Dorothea Dix Campus which consists of 35 buildings totally 944,700 square feet of building space on 326 acres and provides basic maintenance and grounds services for the Governor Morehead School which has 31 buildings totaling 291,000 square feet of building space.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Listed below are the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) associated with the position. Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Qualified applicants will need a general knowledge of the principles and techniques used in the duties assigned.
  • Documented skills in the use of all common hand and power tools.
  • Proven ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Current and valid NC Driver's License.
Management preference will be given to candidates with:
  • at least one (1) year of experience in general facility maintenance working as a repair technician or similar position maintaining and repairing facility equipment and furnishings, including moving, assembling, and relocating office furniture and equipment.
