We’re currently on the lookout for a Lead Systems Engineer who will be responsible for the definition of the powertrain system’s functionality and operation as it applies to its subsystems as well as systems outside the propulsion domain. This lead engineer will be integral in the deriving system level requirements and specifications from customer features, homologation and safety requirements for both the battery electric and fuel cell electric vehicle platforms. As a member of Nikola’s Propulsion team, you will have broad influence throughout the entire project while disrupting the status quo as we secure a zero-emissions future with our hydrogen fuel cell electric, class 8 semi-truck.

You Will:

• Mentor colleagues on the development of powertrain systems requirements for both battery electric and fuel cell vehicle applications
• Manage the development of system level design targets and performance metrics and facilitate them through the program milestone process by means of approvals, reviews, etc.
• Champion Jama strategy for the development, documentation and, administration of requirements including traceability, analysis, and change management
• Adopt internal and external standards and comply with systems engineering best practices
• Operate within an agile process to successfully meet our milestones
• Support development and implementation of process disciplines
• Collaborate closely across internal departments (ADAS, fuel cell, controls, battery, thermal, etc.) as well as external suppliers

You Have:

• Bachelor of Science degree is required (MS degree is preferred) or equivalent work experience
• 8 years of experience in development, testing and/or systems requirement definitions for powertrain systems
• In-depth knowledge of EV and/or hybrid vehicle components & architectures
• Extensive exposure to automotive development centered around safety and homologation regulations such as ISO 2626, FMVSS, GSR, UNECE, etc
• Experience using project and requirements management tools such as JIRA and JAMA
• Understanding of automotive best practices as it relates to environmental validation (temperature, humidity, mechanical shock, EMC, ingress protection)
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and suppliers
