Newmark Education is Hiring a Crisis Intervention Specialist Near Scotch Plains, NJ

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Undergraduate Degree from accredited college or university.
  2. Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education and demonstrated ability to effectively provide testing, psychological evaluation and counseling services.
  3. Valid CPR Certification as Issued by The American Red Cross or equivalent.
  4. Certified in the administration of safe restraint techniques by Handle with Care and CDT Personal Protection Training.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills.
  6. Effective problem-solving, human relations and communication skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Assume front-line responsibility for responding to student crisis events.
  2. Assist in development of students’ behavioral intervention/management programs.
  3. Assist in the monitoring and management of student discipline.
  4. Assuming additional responsibilities promoting the safety and welfare of students.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain excellent attendance for contractual work schedule, including appearing to work on time, providing advance notice of absence to permit adequate coverage, and limiting absences to earned Personal and Sick days.
  2. Receive routine training for handling crisis events, including methods to deescalate crisis events, safe methods for implementing therapeutic hold techniques, restrictions on the use of prone restraint or seclusion techniques, and requirements following the use of prone restraint or seclusion techniques.
  3. Respond immediately and appropriately to student crisis events, including deescalating student behaviors, when necessary, ensuring that other students and staff are removed from areas of danger, utilizing therapeutic hold or seclusion techniques when necessary to prevent immediate harm to the student or others, and complying with all reporting requirements imposed by Board policy, statute, or regulation.
  4. Manage student behaviors, including developing, documenting, and implementing student behavior management plans with counseling team input, counseling students in crisis situations, working closely with School Psychologist and School Social Worker, maintaining student discipline, and following through with correspondence record-keeping relating to discipline.
  5. Ensure student safety, including supervising students in the Debriefing Intervention Room, assisting the scheduling and planning of student movement throughout the building, and providing support for lunchroom and gym recess coverage.
  6. Supervise non-academic student activities, including supporting morning and afternoon transportation of all students.
  7. Administer school procedures to promote student safety and welfare, including keeping Principal fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life, maintaining, evaluating, and updating Debriefing Intervention Logs and Student Incident Reports, and assisting School Emergency Crisis Plan/Practice monthly drills.
  8. Respond to medical emergencies requiring CPR.
  9. Administer safe restraint techniques when necessary for the prevention of imminent harm to other students or staff in accordance with Handle with Care and CDT Personal Protection Training techniques.
  10. Be well-versed in the social decision-making and problem-solving curriculum/social thinking curriculum and all other social-emotional programs at the school.
  11. Participate in professional development programs.
  12. Keep current on the latest educational and behavioral strategies.
  13. Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  14. Collaborate with other professional staff members to elicit the very best from students.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
