QUALIFICATIONS:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve in advisory role, including:
a) observing disabled readers in the classroom, upon teacher’s request;
b) assisting classroom teachers in the diagnosis of students and collaborating in
planning the instructional strategies;
c) assisting in the selection of appropriate materials utilized by the classroom teacher
for corrective measures;
d) providing demonstrations of new methods and materials (i.e. team teaching);
e) interpreting and disseminating results of Universal Screener and Online Literacy
Programs.
2. Create developmental reading program, including:
a) developing and implementing a remediation plan for students who Universal
Screener tests results identified as basic or minimal;
b) utilizing the Reading Recovery method of intervention and instruction for primary
students, particularly in grade one;
c) maintaining the literature collection and library;
d) planning and conducting periodic evaluations to assess the need for changes in the
reading program.
3. Plan and develop curriculum, including:
a) planning and developing special reading projects as approved or provided;
b) serving as a resource to the board and administration in areas of reading
instruction and curriculum;
c) providing leadership in the development and implementation of the K-8 and High
School reading program;
d) ensuring that reading is a component of the K-8 Language Arts and offer
contract teachers from K-8 and High School strategies and support for struggling
readers.
4. Remediation, including:
a) assessing the reading referrals of parents, teachers and support staff;
b) providing remedial instruction of K-8 and High School students through
collaboration with staff, occasional small group instruction and staff development
in content reading strategies.
5. Manage time efficiently.
6. Be punctual and prepared for all meetings.
7. Be well versed in the social decision making and problem solving curriculum/social
thinking curriculum.
8. Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction.
EVALUATION: At least once annually by Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction
