Newmark Education is Hiring a Classroom Teacher (TOSD) Near Scotch Plains, NJ

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
  3. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in use of educationally appropriate technology. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Provide academic instruction to students.
  2. Implement student IEP requirements.
  3. Establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth.
  4. Help students develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education.
  5. Maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform instructional duties in a professional manner, including:

a) developing weekly lesson plans and instructional materials;

b) adapting the curriculum to the needs of each student;

c) effecting lesson plans through presentation to achieve objectives;

d) ensuring class activities and lesson presentations are age-appropriate for the

class and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all students;

e) setting specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly

lesson plans; 

f) devising written and oral assignments, tests and other related assessments

to include appropriate integration of technology that require analytical and

critical thinking as well as the utilization/recall of facts and appropriate data;

g) maintaining records of students’ educational progress in class record books,

electronic-digital grade books and parent portal; summarizing marks for

reporting purposes;

h) developing proficiency in the school grading system;

i) preparing grades, report cards and progress reports;

j) utilizing functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and learning centers to 

create an effective environment for learning;

k) providing extra help to students.

2. Provide specialized instructional need to address students’ disabilities, including:

a) implementing student IEPs;

b) implementing the Behavior Intervention/Modification Plans;

c) assessing pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives 

of instruction;

d) identifying student needs and cooperating with other professional staff members

in assessing and resolving learning problems; 

e) providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the 

curriculum to the needs of each student;

f) establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to achieve classroom

climate conducive to learning;

g) obtaining proficiency in CITW, McRel, Orton Gillingham, NWEA, Frontline Direct IEP

and all other programs implemented at the school;

h) communicating with parents through conferences, weekly telephone calls and other means (i.e., electronic media including teacher pages on parent portal, email, web posting and phone/written communication) about the school program and to discuss student progress.

3. Exercising authority in the classroom, including;

a) supervising Instructional Aide/Assistant;

b) budgeting class time effectively.

4. Supporting student transition, including:

a) writing college/private school recommendations.

5. Supporting non-academic programs of the school, including:

a) supervising students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned;

b) chaperoning class trips.

6. Enhance educational environment and opportunities available at the schools,

including:

a) participating in school-level planning, staff meetings/committees and other school

system groups;

b) making effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional

program;

c) participating in discussions relating to grade level/subject area curriculum and

instructional methodology;

d) participating in curriculum and materials need assessment activities and curriculum

update and revision;

e) being well-versed in the social decision-making and problem solving curriculum/

social thinking curriculum and all other social-emotional programs at the school.

7. Maintain and enhance professional competency, including:

a) maintaining professional competence and continuous improvement through in-

service education and other professional growth activities;

b) participating in professional development programs;

c) keeping current on the latest educational and behavioral strategies.

8. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.

9. Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

10. Collaborate with other professional staff members to elicit the very 

best from students.

11. Be punctual and prepared for all meetings.

12. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor of Curriculum &

Instruction.

EVALUATION: At least once annually by Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction
