Nevada Copper is Hiring an Environmental Manager Near Yerington, NV

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position:

The Environmental Manager will be responsible for executing the company’s environmental strategy within the mining and related operational activities (surface and underground) required to support the business. This position requires both strong technical acumen as well as superior written and verbal communication skills to effectively complete documentation and to interface with senior management, staff, and regulatory agency personnel.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, aligned with Nevada Copper standards.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety and environmental programs, processes, and policies to safeguard employees and ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Manages the development and execution of strategic EHS plans for the Mining site.
  • Evaluate and execute training needs of the site to enable effective operation of the established safety and environmental standards.
  • Establish and recommend changes guided by EHS policies, procedures and business plans and participates in establishing and administering EHS functional projects.
  • Maintain records, data and other EHS related information necessary to satisfy all legal, regulatory and company requirements.
  • Ability to work well with others including company management, staff and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare, or supervise the preparation of, environmental reports, including observations, analyses of containments, and recommendations for control and correction of environmental impacts as needed, that are submitted to local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and to Nevada Copper Leadership.
  • Participate in or lead major environmental incident investigations and assist with the development and tracking of remedial action plans.
  • Prepare, track permit applications, renewals, regulatory proposals and gain authorizations under Federal, State and Local regulatory programs.
  • Permitting programs include the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), State of Nevada (water, air, waste, reclamation), and County (building, industry code).
  • Prepare Environmental Mine Cost Estimates, Bond Updates, and Asset Obligation Liabilities.

Knowledge/Education:

The Environmental Manager should have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in environmental, hydrology, biology, environmental engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) – ten (10) years’ experience is strongly preferred with an emphasis on conducting environmental-related activities in mining environments.
  • Possess a sound understanding of company environmental policies and objectives, a sense of personal responsibility, and the ability to identify and convey to others the appropriate urgency of environmental matters required.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with state and federal regulatory requirements along with general permit requirements pertaining to mining and industrial development projects is expected.
  • Must be capable of managing multiple projects, ensure successful completion of business objectives and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to act in a proactive manner, to anticipate problems, and to solve existing problems within the context of operational requirements and environmental legal constraints required.
  • Exhibit solid intellectual capability including strong knowledge of environmental issues within the minerals industry and a mature and level-headed approach to business required.

  • Proficiency in engineering systems, cost management and productivity enhancements.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent works a minimum of a 40 hour/week schedule and may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements. Personal Protective Equipment required for this position, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
