Nebraska Hematology Oncology is Hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse Near Lincoln, NE

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Performs general nursing care to patients.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Prepares patients for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Charts tests, examinations and other pertinent information required for the patient record.
  • Observes records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Arranges for patient testing and admissions. Provides instruction to patients regarding collection of samples and tests.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are in proper condition for use in delivering health care.
  • Maintains the timely flow of patients.
  • Cleans and sterilizes necessary equipment, glassware, and instruments. Cleans work area.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • One year of practical nursing experience, preferably in a clinic setting. Experience working with oncology patients preferred.
  • Nebraska State Licensed Practical Nurse license

Nebraska State Registered Nurse license

  • Alternative to Minimum Qualification: None

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
PERFORMANCE:

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of practical nursing to provide on-going patient care.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements and the ability to recognize and correct hazardous conditions.
