Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of this position is to carry out the mission of the Facilities Division, which seeks to support the overall goals and objectives of the university. Position is charged with staff management responsibilities to ensure informal construction projects are constructed on time and within established budgets; meet federal, state and local building codes; and meet University requirements with minimal disruption to campus activities.This position supervises the group that is responsible for management and delivery of informal construction projects for the Facilities Division and is responsible for large and small programmatic building and major system level renovations and upfits. The group is comprised of construction management professionals, skilled trades staff and administrative staff charged with oversight and execution of informal and some formal construction work.This position is responsible for recruiting, pre-qualifying and maintaining groups of licensed and professional contractors that serve the University’s construction needs as well as contribute to the University meeting its goals for use of historically underutilized businesses and sustainability goals.This position also coordinates with other Facilities groups and campus stakeholders to provide budget control of projects accomplished through a variety of fund sources, e.g., safety, ADA, classroom, various appropriated and provides input into long-term project design and construction guidelines; reviews plans and specifications submitted during the planning phases for safety and code compliance, constructability, design errors and omissions, as well as recommends bid packages and construction schedule time periods.This position is required to perform and supervise the performance of site inspections to monitor construction projects and when necessary, liaison with campus stakeholders and authorities having jurisdiction to ensure successful project outcomes. The budget of these projects typically ranges from $5,000-$2,000,000 and this position has oversight of all related construction as well as some professional services contracts.
