About the Department
The College of Sciences Academic Affairs office is an administrative unit of the College of Sciences. Within the Academic Affairs department is the WISE Village, a living and learning community for first and second-year women entering STEM fields.
The WISE Village is a collaborative partnership between its five academic colleges (Agriculture & Life Sciences, Engineering, Natural Resources, Sciences, and Textiles) and University Housing. Its budget and reporting structure reside in the College of Sciences.
The WISE Village is a Living and Learning Village where students, staff, and faculty are engaged around common learning outcomes to Think and Do in a shared residential environment. Villages provide connected curricular and co-curricular experiences to foster a sense of belonging, cultivate an intellectually enriching environment, and support the development of the whole student. WISE focuses on helping women in STEM at NC State engage in focused inquiry within their disciplines to help them achieve their educational and career goals in a supportive community.

Essential Job Duties
The WISE program Associate Director will assist the Director in providing leadership and direction for first and second-year students in STEM-related majors.
As the Associate Director you will be expected to apply student development theory to create and implement student programming, advising, and counseling, as well as assist in achieving the goals of WISE with regards to student success and retention.
In this role you get to work in conjunction with the Director to design, create, and implement academic year programming for the WISE program. You will be responsible for the daily operation of the WISE program programming in WISE including the creation of programs and managing the programming calendar for the program. Additionally, you will be a apart of cultivating and maintaining partnerships across campus.
The primary duties of the Associate Director will include but are not limited to:
  • Manage daily WISE operations, including programming implementation, front desk activities, event coordination, and student staff supervision (hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation).
  • Administer WISE Village admissions in collaboration with University Housing, including database maintenance, admission decisions, and communications.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with university housing, academic colleges, and campus partners.
  • Maintain community visibility and engagement through office hours, event attendance, and positive interactions.
  • Facilitate student connections to university experiences and provide guidance to student groups.
  • Communicate with students via various channels and conduct assessments to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with campus units and the community to support student learning and advocacy efforts.
  • Assist with recruiting activities, strategic planning, and fundraising to enhance WISE’s reputation.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
A Master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs, Student Counseling, College Student Development, Career Counseling, or STEM area or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience mentoring, advising, and/or supervising students or employees
Preferred Qualifications
  • Be familiar with college student development and university systems
  • Experience working with gender issues in a university setting
  • Experience in a residence life setting
  • Relevant experience with living and learning communities and/or Village content area
3 to 5 years post-master’s work experience with progressively responsible duties in the following:
  • Administrative, supervisory, mentoring/coaching experience
  • College-level teaching, student advising, student development, program development, and/or curriculum development
