Job Overview
We are seeking a Mental Health Counselor to join our team and provide our campers with professional mental health check-ins and cultivate fun & engaging intervention plans and activities for campers to remedy mental health issues. The NBC Camp Counselor position is a contractual position between May-August in 1 fiscal year. This position is also part-time and paid monthly. In this position, you will include intervention plans for K-12th graders, facilitating individual and group interventions and overseeing the overall mental health wellbeing of campers. You will also collaborate with Camp Directors and staff and work directly with campers to help them overcome mental health issues and lead a healthier life.
Camp Counselor Specific Responsibilities:
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions
- Monitor progress throughout the intervention plan
- Monthly reports to Board of Co-Chairs to ensure program policies, plans, and procedures are followed through (Qualitative & Quantitive data are acceptable)
- Be a resource to campers, staff, & families
- Collaborate on intervention plans with other mental health specialists and/or Camp Directors
- Identify and prevent behaviors that impede positive growth
- Assist family members and primary caregivers in managing mental behavioral challenges
Compensation
$1,550/month
Requirements
- Proven work experience as a Mental Health Counselor or similar role
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and sympathetic nature
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a Mental Health Counselor
Qualifications
Education
- A master’s degree in mental health counseling or similar
- Current practitioner licensed through the state's clinical therapy board
Experience
- 3 years of experience in counseling or mental health services
- First aid and CPR training and certification (preferred)
- Must submit fingerprinting & background check (required)
Skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Encouraging to campers and patient when instructing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable treating both routines and serious mental health illness
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with mentally or emotionally disabled persons and their families
- Computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
- Strict adherence to camp philosophy, standards, and goals
