NATIONAL WOMEN'S LAW CENTER is Hiring a Receptionist/Office Clerk Near Washington, DC

The Position

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) seeks a receptionist and office clerk with strong interpersonal and customer service skills. This role will act as the face and voice of NWLC to the general public by answering phone calls to our main number and greeting guests when they arrive at NWLC's office. This role will also support the Office and Operations Manager in their day to day functions, including mail and package management, conference room assistance, and inventory/supplies management.

This is a full-time non-exempt position of 40 hours per week.

The Organization

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in our society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls.

We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us — especially women of color, LGBTQIA people, and low-income women and families.

For 50 years, we have been on the leading edge of every major legal and policy victory for women, and we need you with us to continue this fight. Find out more at NWLC.org.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close NWLC's office each day;
  • Operate telephone switchboard to answer, screen, or forward calls, provide information, take messages, and schedule appointments;
  • Provide a warm, friendly, and personable greeting to persons entering NWLC, determine nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations;
  • Use computer, mail, or facsimile machine to transmit information or documents to staff and customers;
  • Perform administrative support tasks, such as preparing memos, correspondence; excel spreadsheets, or other documents. File and maintain records;
  • Provide information about NWLC, such as location of departments or offices, and employees within the organization;
  • Maintain kitchen supplies and ensure their orderliness, and occasionally troubleshoot kitchen equipment (coffee makers, taps, microwaves);
  • Coordinate with cleaning vendors to ensure major kitchen and conference room cleaning functions are performed satisfactorily;
  • On occasion, actively clean countertops and appliances to account for spills;
  • Provide support to the Office and Operations manager as needed;
  • Assist with events hosted at NWLC as needed;
  • Help with conference room set up when needed;
  • Collect, sort, distribute, and prepare mail, messages, and courier deliveries;
  • Order, stock, and organize office supplies and storage rooms;
  • Clean offices and workstations in anticipation of new employees;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess:

  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone etiquette;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Organizational skills;
  • The ability to work independently once given a task.

Additional preferred skills and knowledge:

  • At least one year of relevant experience in a busy office environment;
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed.

Key Relations

The Receptionist/Office Clerk reports to the Director of IT and Operations. Additionally, the Receptionist/Office Clerk will collaborate closely with the Office and Operations Manager and all staff across the organization.

Compensation & Benefits

A salary within the range of $60,307-72,615 will be provided to the successful candidate with 0 to 10 years of experience, consistent with the National Women's Law Center's compensation framework. The successful candidate's salary within this range will be determined by the number years of relevant experience they bring to the role.

The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation.

NWLC is a non-profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. at our new office at 1350 Eye Street N.W. This role is designated as essential and will be required to work in the office four days per week, and will be eligible for one remote day per week. How to Apply

To apply, please submit a resume and a cover letter outlining how your professional background is a good fit for this position. Resumes should include exact start and end dates (month and year) of employment, as well as the average number of hours worked per week in each job. Applications accepted until position is filled.
