We’re looking for a freelance (20 hours/week) temporary Communications Manager to help cover our team over a four-month parental leave.

What you’ll do:

• Write press releases, blogs, pitches and social media copy
• Approve social media and pitch copy
• Identify newsworthy stories within the organization and secure media coverage in key outlets
• Support spokespeople and prepare them for media exposure moments (interviews, speaking engagements)
• Build and maintain press lists with support from communications specialist
• Monitor press and social media mentions and determine when a response is necessary
• Apply for industry awards
• Support internal communications 

Must Haves:

• Ability to issue an invoice for their services and provide a W-9 
• At least five years of professional PR experience, preferably in media or tech, in-house or agency
• Strong written and verbal communications skills 
• Ability to think like a journalist with a pulse on the media, journalism, the PR industry and technology
• Strong research and skills
• Creative storytelling ability
• Experience creating content for Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram in a professional setting
• Experience using Muck Rack 
• Collaborative, empathetic self starter with strong project-management skills
• Ability to work east coast hours (U.S.)

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $50. The role requires 20 hours a week maximum and you will be required to document your time and submit it on a weekly basis. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. For all other countries, we have competitive pay bands based on market standards.

Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted.
