About Us

Since 1876, The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY) has been partnering with boys and young men in after-school, weekend, and summer programs that support youth growth and development. BCNY’s two well-equipped clubhouses in East Harlem and Flushing and its wilderness camp in Harriman State Park offer activities and programs remarkable in their range. From swimming to robotics and enjoying ice skating in Central Park and a trip to the theatre on Saturdays, BCNY programs and events deepen interests and skills and are free of charge to members and their families. With the increase in youth directly impacted by the shelter and homelessness crisis in New York City, BCNY is dedicated to increasing equitable access to its free, high quality youth programs that foster brave spaces where boys and young men can connect, have fun and build lifelong friendships with peers and mentor. Part of that mission is our commitment to BCNY’s expansion sites in the Bronx and Brooklyn that engage members within their communities with the same youth-centered ethos the organization is known for. Our dedicated and highly skilled staff and our professional advisory council have made BCNY a leader in youth programming across the field and we invite you join our team as we partner with boys and young men as they journey through their childhoods and our clubhouses. 

Summary of Position 

BCNY’s Communications Manager will report to the Managing Director of Communications and 

Partnerships. Collaborating closely with the Communications and Graphic Design Manager, the Communications Manager will manage the department’s projects, assets and platforms, and implement effective systems and processes to ensure the department is organized and efficient. They will support the Managing Director of Communications and Partnerships in building relationships across New York City and within the organization and work closely with the programs team to ensure that our brand and messaging represents the organization’s mission, vision, values and goals. 

The ideal candidate is passionate about youth programming with a successful record developing and executing communications strategies. He or she has managed communications in challenging situations, worked closely with senior staff and is able to work collaboratively and independently. They will be able to create accurate and detailed messaging with sensitivity to tone, culture and positioning, is tech savvy and pays close attention to detail. The candidate will propose data driven strategies and plans to increase efficiency and broaden our audiences across all platforms, and increase excitement about BCNY programming, partnerships and events.

Job Requirements

BCNY is a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. To that end, we require that all BCNY employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. BCNY requires all staff to receive a booster shot that protects against COVID-19 once they become eligible. New employees will be asked to submit proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manage and implement a strategic communications plan that maintains brand integrity, amplifies BCNY’s programs, mission, values and vision.
  • Manage, moderate, update, and maintain BCNY website. 
  • Manage Google Ad account. 
  • Manage inter-departmental communications and flow of information.
  • Manage and execute mass-emailing and newsletters.
  • Manage, create content, post and moderate BCNY social media.
  • Create BCNY blog posts (interviewing members, alumni, staff, partners, etc.) 
  • Manage and create communication assets, swag, marketing materials.
  • Manage and create annual reports, flyers, brochures, posters, invitations, programs, and letterhead in collaboration with the comms team. 
  • Manage Project Comms participants during BCNY’s Summer Cycle.
  • Build and maintain cooperative relationships across print, broadcast, and online media outlets.
  • Track, analyze and evaluate communications and membership data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or relevant field or equivalent 4-year relevant workforce experience.
  • In addition to degree/workforce equivalent experience, 3 years of experience in communications, journalism/media, public relations, or marketing.
  • Experience supporting leadership and working in a collaborative environment.
  • Project management and demonstrated success in owning projects from start to end.
  • Expertise in WordPress, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro, Canva, Mailchimp, Microsoft applications and tools (SharePoint, Planner, Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of, commitment to and interest in youth development, education, and social justice.
  • Experience managing and writing for websites and social media, creating/managing newsletter communications and marketing materials.
  • Google Ad and/or Salesforce experience and sharp photography and videography skills a plus.
