JOB DESCRIPTION

Bartender

Reports To: Food & Beverage Manager & Clubhouse Manager

Directly Manages/Supervises: None

Job Overview:

Responsible for serving all food and beverage items requested by membership and their guests while presenting a professional, knowledgeable, respectful, and courteous demeanor. Must express a thorough and extensive knowledge about different beers, spirts, classic cocktails and wine. Ability to understand and communicate food and beverage selections, work well as a team, adhere to club’s standards of service, maintain a professional appearance, a clean work environment, as well as always displaying a positive and friendly attitude. A bartender must be able to think and act quickly, while retaining self-composure. Also responsible for setting up and breaking down banquets as necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

  • Welcome each member/guest personally within 30 seconds. Offer food and/or drink in a timely manner.
  • Always communicate with clear and enthusiastic words, tone, and body language Make members/guests feel appreciated through your actions.
  • Work as a team with all Club's personnel to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient food and beverage service.
  • Work with others to keep all bar surfaces and surrounding areas clean and stocked to management set par levels.
  • Cut and prep garnishes daily
  • Mix, garnish and serve drinks ordered through the bar for members and their guests
  • Ring drink orders in POS immediately and after every drink re-ordered.
  • Arrange bottles and glassware (polished). Maintain an attractive, full display, with all labels facing forward.
  • Wash and sterilize stemware and bar utensils.
  • Be present and attentive. While interacting with members you can also be polishing glassware, wiping down bottles and wells.
  • Report to work on time in a neat and clean uniform. Well-groomed hair and personal hygiene are essential.
  • Anticipate your members’/guest's needs. Follow the half-full rule when offering another drink. Be alert of member/guest signals (raising a hand, making eye contact, etc.), and acknowledge and to let them know the bartender will be right with them; learn members’ names and favorite drinks. 
  • Serve alcohol responsibly and ask for management intervention if necessary.
  • Be able to handle, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds of weight from storage areas to service areas with or without a hand dolly.
  • Be able to stand and walk for up to five (5) hours without sitting.
  • Ensure quality levels of food and beverage products and maintain quality standards in services, facilities, and patron satisfaction.
  • Maintain and assume responsibility for sales. Ensure everything is rung into the POS. 
  • May not consume alcoholic beverages while on duty.
  • Use standard measuring devices. Pouring directly from the bottle to glass is not permitted. Bartenders are cautioned against both over and under pouring.
  • Perform clean-up and closing duties as assigned by manager; lock up according to prescribed procedures.
  • Close the bar at the designated times and complete the closing financial reports.

Work Environment

This position operates in a restaurant setting. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee may be exposed to hazards including but not limited to, cuts, slips, trips, falls, and burns. Frequent hand washing is required. May work near toxic/caustic chemicals and with fumes or airborne particles.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires long hours of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. The position may require carrying trays of food and/or beverage, as well as the occasional lifting of products weighing up to 50 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This position regularly requires long hours as well as on weekends.

Required Education and Experience

  • Prior bartending experience of at least one year or more. Preferably in fine dining.
  • Knowledge of beers, spirits, and wine as well as steps of service.
  • Must be of legal age according to the state regulations to serve alcohol.
  • Highschool diploma preferred, and previous work-related skills, knowledge or experience is required.
  • Must be able to understand, read and write English.
