WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

MCPD is seeking an Information Technology Technician III to support the Department’s mobile data component of the County Public Safety Data Systems (PSDS) and County Enterprise desktop/laptop environment. This position will provide input as to the operation, management, and performance of both the desktop and mobile data systems. This position requires high troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

In addition, this position is responsible for providing customer support in person, remotely, and at alternate locations in Montgomery County.

Other duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the configuration, installation, and interfaces with dozens of County systems and departments.
  • Supporting hardware and software and must follow processes, document actions and follow-up, and contribute key learnings back to the department to assure cross knowledge in the agency.
  • Researching and testing new products
  • Providing evaluation writeups
  • Working closely with other members of the Police Technology Department.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position may serve as technical team lead in specific projects and be responsible for the delivery of a team of technicians for the installation and upgrades.

This position is REQUIRED to work shift work in supporting a 24/7 department.

To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with federal, state and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within a specified timeframe.

Minimum Qualifications


Experience:
Three years if experience in technology support and technician work, at least one (1) year of which must have been at a progressively responsible level involving the use of specialized knowledge, skills and abilities in complex technology support activities such as LAN administration, web page enhancements, troubleshooting, software administrations, and/or mainframe operation.

Education: Completion of high school or High School Certification of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Physical Abilities: Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printer, computers, modems and monitors up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Criteria


There are NO Preferred Criteria Assessments
. All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Qualified”, placed on the eligible list, and may be considered for an interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications of the same grade or higher will be placed on the Eligible List as a “Transfer” candidate and may be considered for an interview.

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following.

  • Experience analyzing technology-based problems quickly, establishing a viable course of action and taking appropriate action to resolve the issue.
  • Experience in Police Department or other structured environment with a clear chain of command.
  • Police Specialized technologies such as mobile video, body camera, Taser, Radios, cell phone and LPR.
  • Experience developing procedures and policies.
