QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in Business Education or Marketing OR be eligible for a Provisional Certificate in a Teaching Field (alternative certificate) in Business Education. Applicants should have a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management, Marketing, or a closely related field to one of these majors and should have passing scores (a 154) on the Business Education Praxis Exam 5101.
Bachelor's degree GPA must be 2.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Master's Degrees must have a 3.0 minimum GPA on a 4.0. scale. Degrees must be from a a regionally accredited higher education agency.
New applicants must currently have an industry approved credential such as MOS, IC3, MTA, ADOBE, OR must obtain the credential within the first year of employment (by June 1). Applicants who are existing MCPSS teachers must have the industry approved credential and passing Praxis Score before a transfer can be approved.
The duties include but are not limited to:
Teaches knowledge and skills in areas prescribed by the Alabama State Department of Education Career and Technical Education Department.
Sponsors a Career and Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO) and participates in at least one program-related competition per year.
Develops lesson plans and creates positive learning experiences.
Maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
Exhibits positive human relations skills.
Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
Maintains and submits records and reports.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
Provides instruction that is realistic in terms of current and future job specifications.
Assists students to make informed decisions regarding their occupational goals.
Maintains an environment which is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping and student behavior.

Alabama school boards are required by state law to verify the employment eligibility of newly hired employees by using the federal E-Verify program. New employees are required to provide a Social Security number, an unexpired identity document that contains a photograph, and other acceptable documents that establish employment eligibility. In addition to determining whether a new hire is authorized to work in the United States, E-Verify will confirm that the employee's name and Social Security number match.
