Temporary Laboratory-Aide, 5 week contract, On-site, Department - School of Public Health

Job Summary: Provides glasswashing and sterilization service for 6 laboratories, a core facility and departmental research space.

Position Description: The Research Assistant will provide support to the research activities at the Lab.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Retrieve and wash laboratory glassware/instruments after use utilizing dedicated equipment. Sterilize with autoclave and distribute clean glassware, instruments and consumable supplies. Replaces defective or broken glassware/instruments from stock. Maintains inventory of glassware and records of glasswashing loads completed. Prepares, sterilizes and distributes commonly used laboratory liquid medias. Cleans and maintains work areas and disposes of contaminated material as needed. Incidental exposure to laboratory hazards which requires safety trainings and proper PPE requirements. No laboratory research is included in this role.
Experience working in a laboratory support role and utilizing glasswashing and autoclaving equipment preferred.

Basic qualifications:

1. Experience working in a laboratory support service oriented setting.
2. Experience using cleaning and sterilization equipment.
3. Comfort working around hazardous materials with proper safety precautions and trainings in place.
4. Ability to communicate with scientific personnel.
5. Computer literacy and good organizational and record keeping skills.
6. Attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
