Research Lab Tech I

Working under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts biospecimen processing and analysis using established protocols. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under the direction of the supervisor.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Process, track, store, retrieve and distribute blood and tissue samples collected for clinical trials and banking studies according to approved protocols. Analyze blood and tissue specimens and derivatives according to approved protocols. Ensure all study related samples are collected, properly prepared and shipped according to protocol requirements and IATA/DOT regulations.

2. Provide support in the coordination of weekly tissue collection schedules in collaboration with principal investigators, pathology department staff and clinical research staff.

3. Track progress of daily cases in operating rooms for tissue collection in coordination with pathology staff at BWH and BWFH. Distribute fresh tissue to lab investigators for IRB-approved research and store fixed and frozen tissues according to clinical trial and banking procedures.

4. Maintain database used to catalogue and track specimens and associated data. Responsible for data reporting, management and maintenance, and resolution of data queries related to tracking of study participants and specimens.

5. Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment.

6. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental and laboratory procedures.

7. All other duties as assigned.

BS in biological/physical science required.

New graduate with relevant course or project work.
