Midnight Mission is Hiring an EDUCATION CENTER MANAGER Near Los Angeles, CA

The Education Center Manager is the center of creating and delivering exceptional educational programming for clients at TMM.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Orientation and Assessments

  • Managing and overseeing all educational activities related to The Midnight Mission’s Crisis, Bridge, and Recovery Programs and related client services
  • Planning, developing and managing delivery of an educational program for program participants
  • Forge relationships with personnel at local schools for school enrollments and volunteer tutoring opportunities.
  • Oversee and manage the Education Center by providing coverage for Ed Center hours of operation, ensuring compliance with rules and policies, and providing education and career services.
  • Enroll, document, and oversee the scheduling and delivery of Ed Center classes
  • Facilitate acquisition of all personnel, supplies and equipment necessary for Ed classes.
  • Maintain schedule for various groups wishing to access facility space (A.A., advocates’ groups, church, creative writing, HR, Capital One, CCAPP).
  • Oversee the registration, transportation, and payment for GED exams, as well as other outsourced educational programs, which includes the recruitment, management, and coordination of volunteers for tutoring for GED and other classes.
  • Conduct educational assessments using AZTEC educational software to determine client grade level and proficiency.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate educational experiences utilizing a variety of methods: instructor-led classroom training, online and computer-based training, and experiential hands-on training, which includes working with instructors, tutors, management, and case management to develop and manage a comprehensive educational strategy for each participant.
  • Work with Recovery Program case management to develop, outline, curate materials, and participate in delivery of weekly new intake orientation.
  • Schedule new intake education assessments 30 days after entering the program.
  • Review and maintain documentation on daily class attendance, performance/conduct concerns, educational goal progress/adherence for all clients and provide regular updates to the Director of Programs, Program Managers, and case management as well as
  • Administer surveys to measure participants’ level of education, satisfaction, unmet needs, etc. and use data to better understand the needs of the clients.
  • Partner with case management, Career Counselor and Education Volunteers to identify program participants suited for employment with outside employers.
  • Write daily shift report outlining eight hours of activities on a 30-minute basis.
  • Write progress notes and post on HMIS/Clarity for each client met with on a one-on-one basis.
  • Prepare statistical reports: monthly chart of services, as well as a pictorial dashboard
  • Teach adults how to read and write using lesson plans, real-life contextual learning experiences, and technology. Establishes positive rapport with students served.
  • Utilize various curriculum resources aligning with common core standards.
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Incorporate specific, measurable, behavioral objectives and timeframes. Provide students with suggestions and feedback.
  • Utilize various instructional methods, including tactile, visual, and aural learning preferences.
  • Work with students on an individual basis.
  • Promote active classroom participation using interactive and participatory methods to empower students.
  • Provide weekly, quarterly, or yearly academic reports.
  • Implement a continuous improvement plan to ensure all education programs are effective.

Academic Advisement and Counseling

  • Propose best curricula options and on educational opportunities such as GED, vocational, school or college.
  • Administer GED pre-test to determine readiness to take actual exam and conduct daily G.E.D. prep class.
  • Oversee the scheduling, transportation to and from, payment for, and taking of GED exams.
  • Find funding to support educational goals.

Networking

  • Network with schools and Midnight Mission Volunteer Manager to maintain source of student volunteers, and other volunteer opportunities and career opportunities.
  • Forge relationships with personnel at local schools e.g. LACC, LATTC, AFOC, and et. al.
  • Meet with prospective employers, such as Amazon, Allied Universal, SoFi Stadium, so we are immediately alerted of new job openings and our clients are given preference by potential employers
  • These collaborations generate special services for our clients, such as Break It to Make It (serving recently incarcerated, unhoused, and other vulnerable populations) and GED/HiSET test-taking services for individuals with disabilities.

Career Advisement and Placement

  • Assist clients with job hunt (resume, cover letter, online job site profiles, identifying job openings, mock interviews, salary negotiation), and provide professional references.
  • Assist clients with creating various accounts, such as email or really accounts, or school
  • Order various government documents, (Social Security card, birth certificates, green cards/visas/passports, and high school and college transcripts), for the purpose of enrolling in school or obtaining work.

IT Instruction and Assistance

  • Teach participants how to use curricula, including Aztec (GED prep) and Microsoft IT Academy (Microsoft Office certifications) and ServSafe (Food Prep certification).
  • Teach clients how to operate a computer and cell phone, (text, email, attach document, search internet, etc.).
  • Provide clients with computers, headsets, webcams for zoom meetings, ranging from A.A. meeting, job interviews, scheduled court appearances, and school and career purposes.

Outreach and Aftercare

  • Serve clients at HomeLight, providing career and educational counseling by phone, email, ZOOM, or text.
  • Maintain relationships with alumni and provide services including update resumes, provide professional references, assess job opportunities, apply for unemployment, enroll in school, etc.
  • Provide referrals to legal services (expungement, personal injury, SSI application/appeal, immigration, inheritance, etc.)
  • Explain or translate various documents from Spanish to English for clients and staff, as well as serve as a translator for hearing impaired, and non-English speakers.

Personal Management

  • Recruit and supervise front-desk work therapy participant and supervise sign-in sheet ensuring that we capture the names of all clients accessing the ACE Center and its services.

Vendor Relations

  • Work with Career Counselor to assess educational software to determine best fit for clients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working in an educational setting, as a platform instructor or administrator
  • Teaching or Administrative Credential desired
  • Solid understanding of computer-based training methods and software
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems
  • Proficiency on MS Office applications, including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and spoken communication
