Job Title: Relief Road Supervisor

Department: Transit Operations

Reports to: Superintendent of Street Service Delivery

Pay:$57,730.00

JOB SUMMARY: Assists operators in providing safe, efficient, on-time service to patrons by assuming the responsibilities of Radio Dispatcher, Run Dispatcher, and Road Supervisor as needed.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise the field operations of MATA Transit Operations Department on the street. Monitor and record on-time delivery of service in assigned zone and ensure that bus service is efficient and timely. Coordinate schedule assignments and re-routings as needed.
  2. Operate and communicate using a two-way radio system as regulated by the FCC. Notify Central Dispatch of deviations, overload, accidents, or passenger incidents. Investigate accidents and passenger disputes.
  3. Continuously monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures in order to maintain scheduled service and resolve operational problems.
  4. Monitor telephones and radios in the Dispatching Office.
  5. Respond to road calls involving fare box malfunctions and other problems when necessary.
  6. Observe bus shelters and other MATA equipment for any needed repairs or replacements to include bus stop signs and report those issues to the correct department for follow up.
  7. Responsible for assigning bus operators to runs in a manner that is consistently cost effective for the company and in compliance with the labor agreement.
  8. Responsible for daily reports regarding field operations in assigned zone.
  9. Assume responsibilities of Radio and/or Run Dispatchers as needed.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
  2. Responsible for supervising operations at shuttle locations during special events.
  3. Distributes sand in inclement weather by driving a sand truck.
  4. Observes bus shelters and other MATA equipment for any needed repairs or replacements to include bus stop signs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GEDrequired.

Other:

  1. Minimum 2 years management or supervisory experience; 3 years’ experience as a bus operator or equivalent in a related field is necessary. 
  2. Must have a working knowledge of existing MATA route system and the street network of the Memphis area.
  3. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public, management and public officials.
  4. Must have a valid Class B driver's license with a P endorsement.
  5. Must be computer literate to be able to work with the TrackIt software program using a computer tablet or other computer equipment as well as Microsoft Office products.
  6. Must be able to fully and accurately complete paperwork related to accidents, incidents and related.
  7. Must be willing to work shift hours and days as assigned.
  8. Must be willing to comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  9. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols. Ensures a commitment to safety through consistent and professional behaviors in performance of job requirements that demonstrates safety is a fundamental value that guides all aspects of work.
  10. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  11. Work records of current employees will be reviewed for satisfactory job performance.
  12. Ability to understand, interpret and implement bus operator rules and regulations is required and must recommend disciplinary action for operators in violation of system policies and rules.
  13. Must be able to understand, interpret and implement labor agreement.

Environment:

  1. As extensive driving is required in the course of a normal workday, the ability to sit for long periods of time is needed. Walking and standing is also required.
  2. May need to bend stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  3. Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment up to heights such as on top of a bus or other vehicle.
  4. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs., including overhead as needed.
  5. Must be able to work in an office work environment and also work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Must be able to withstand exposure to weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, and extreme noise levels.
  6. Requires ability to hear telephone, radio communications, and directions given and visually perform essential functions of the job.
  7. Should be able to view a computer screen for varying periods of time.
  8.  Flexibility of fingers is required for reports and data entry.
