JOB TITLE: Electro-Mechanic
DEPARTMENT: Trolley Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Director of Fleet Maintenance
JOB FUNCTION: Perform skilled electrical and mechanical work to diagnose, maintain, repair, rebuild, overhaul, service and inspect trolley vehicles and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:
  1. Instruct other workers in the maintenance and repair of antique rail cars and all types of equipment.
  2. Repair lighting, heating, brakes, and related systems on Trolley cars.
  3. Perform electronic fabrication and assembly tasks such as soldering and repairing of electrical wiring.
  4. Perform safety and preventive maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, rebuilding, and overhauling on all parts of antique rail cars.
  5. Respond to service failures (road calls) as required.
  6. Record completed inspections and repairs using forms or electronic software systems.
  7. Complete written reports as required.
  8. Perform work on DC electrical systems.
  9. Operate a computer terminal to log work orders and parts maintenance.
  10. Perform re-railing of de-railed antique cars.
  11. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
An associate degree in an electrical field or technical degree in power systems is preferred or a combination of education and work experience providing equivalent knowledge and skills.
Other:
  1. Three (3) years' experience in the maintenance and repair of electrically powered rail transit vehicles or have successfully completed trade school for such training is preferred.
  2. Knowledge of rail track operations.
  3. Be experienced in the use of tools to perform mechanical and electrical work.
  4. Must possess valid driver's license.
  5. Must demonstrate knowledge of personal computer operations.
  6. Should be able to give oral or written instructions.
  7. Must be knowledgeable of operating principles of analog and digital electronics, electrical control circuitry and associated mechanical systems.
  8. Able to use equipment diagnostics systems such as found in Automotive Maintenance Software Applications.
  9. Should be able to read and interpret operating and maintenance SOPs, manuals, schematics, prints and instructions typically used in the position.
  10. Must be able to prepare work cards and orders for rail vehicles.
  11. Other job duties as assigned.
  12. Must comply with all safety rules and instructions including the use of proper personal protective equipment.
  13. Able to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  14. Must be willing to work shifts and days as assigned.
  15. Must be willing to comply with the company's Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  16. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  17. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.
Environment:
  1. Extensive walking and standing will be required at least 90% of the time.
  2. Applicant must be able to withstand exposure to uncomfortable weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, chemicals and extreme noise levels powered by high voltage electricity.
  3. Must be able to lift to a maximum of 50 lbs., and lifting parts and materials overhead is required.
  4. Must be able to crawl or stoop into tight areas and lay horizontally under a rail car.
  5. Must have the range of motion necessary to be able to perform data entry and create electronic documents.
  6. Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes in building environments such as with or without air conditioning or heating.
  7. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing.
  8. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume through the use of spoken words. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
  9. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm's reach with skill, control, and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or for significant reading of documents and other materials.
