Position Summary: Kemper is a publicly-traded, multi-billion-dollar insurance and financial services company, and we are seeking a dynamic Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a proven leader who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C and Life) that has exposure to SEC and GAAP accounting. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting. Position Responsibilities: Assisting in preparation of quarterly and annual external financial statements Assisting in preparation of monthly internal financial statements Assisting with the consolidation process of company operating information for internal and external financial reporting Design, prepare, and analyze management reports Create and perform ad hoc queries and analyses Perform research around emerging accounting guidance and unique operational transactions Additional responsibilities, as assigned Position Qualifications: BA/BS degree in Accounting 2 years of experience in financial reporting preferred. Insurance / financial services experience is a plus CPA or CPA candidate preferred Experience in public accounting and/or corporate financial reporting role Familiarity with US GAAP and SEC filing requirements is a plus Experience navigating a large ERP environment Proficiency in MS Office products - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel Experience in Workday Financial Management and Workiva a strong plus Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions Strong work ethic with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional This position is a remote role and can work from a US based home or a local Kemper office The range for this position is $47,500 to $81,300.
