POSITION PURPOSE:
The Sales Manager at Courtyard Newark Downtown is responsible for attainment of assigned goals tied to the overall performance of the hotel. The individual will be responsible for effectively soliciting and securing new accounts as well as servicing groups in house. The Sales Manager will work in conjunction with the Area Director of Sales to achieve the hotel’s revenue and market share goals for one or more properties. The focus of sales may vary based on the respective property the associate is assigned to (i.e. Leisure, Business Transient, Group, SMERF). The Sales Manager will prepare and execute sales contracts, event orders, group resumes to ensure quality product delivery and customer satisfactions. The Sales Manager will serve and assist in coordinating all function details with clients to include but not limited to space requirements, meeting times, equipment, menus, group resume, billing, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Proactively conduct solicitation calls, conduct sales tours, and entertain clients specific to Leisure, SMERF, Business Transient (BT) and/or Groups, as applicable by property.
  • Grow existing relationships with assigned accounts specific to Leisure, SMERF, Business Travel (BT), and/or Groups, as applicable by property.
  • Monitor and evaluate trends within your market.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations and policies of the hotel and applicable departments.
  • Maintain strong visibility in local community and industry organizations, as applicable.
  • May assist in implementing and/or participating in special promotions relating to direct sales segments i.e. sales blitzes, etc.
  • Attend daily/weekly/monthly meetings and any other functions required by management.
  • Receive and respond to all customer inquiries within business hours. Negotiate and capture all profitable Rooms & Catering business in accordance with selective selling guidelines.
  • Prepare and send requested collateral materials to designated clients.
  • On a regular basis, distribute final Rooming Lists and Banquet Event Orders to all applicable service staff, including the Banquet Service Staff, the Food Preparation Staff and the Rooms Division.
  • Meet clients upon arrival and prior to departure to ensure all details of the contract are being delivered.
  • In a timely, accurate and consistent manner, document and report all sales activities as required.
  • Maintain an active list of top accounts to ensure continuous relationship-building activities. Top accounts should be contacted, visited, entertained, etc., frequently.
  • Perform other services and duties as requested by the Area Director of Sales and General Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess developed verbal and written communication skills to frequently negotiate, convince, sell and influence other managerial personnel, hotel guest(s) and/or corporate clients.
  • Experience with professional selling skills desired: opening, probing, supporting, and closing.
  • Must be proficient in general computer knowledge especially Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to work independently and simultaneously manage multiple tasks; strong organization and presentation skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • List additional but not necessary requirements that would be helpful to perform the position.
  • Previous Hotel Sales experience preferred.
  • A college degree is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license for the applicable state
PHYSICAL WORKING DEMANDS:
To perform the duties of this job, an individual must be able to read, write, understand and communicate effectively using the English Language.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time (3-4 hours at a time). The employee is frequently required to use hands for feeling objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to talk and hear.
Specific vision abilities required to this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to enter information into a computer.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
General Office: The work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. (Phone ringing, and heavy communication between co-workers and customers). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods (3-4 hours at a time). The employee is frequently required to use hands for typing, 10-key operation, telephone dialing, feeling objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to talk and hear. Travel may be required.
