Max Construction Company is Hiring a Controller Near Denver, CO

```Overview```

A commercial general contractor specializing in tenant finish projects is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting, financial analysis, and budgeting. ```Duties```

- Manage full-cycle accounting operations

- Process and oversee all aspects of the company's financial operations including AP/AR and payroll

- Job costing and allocations

- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes

- Prepare and provide year-end financial information to external CPA

- Prepare and analyze financial statements (accrual basis)

- Percentage of Completion (WIP) calculation

- Bank reconciliations

- Conduct regular account reconciliations

- Calculate and report personal use of company vehicle

- Calculate variances and report discrepancies to management

- Administer chart of accounts

- Oversee monthly client progress billings

- Fixed asset tracking and management

- Quarterly sales tax return and annual personal property tax return

- Perform financial analysis to support business decision-making

- Budgeting, forecasting processes and cash flow analysis

- Benefit administration (HSA/401k)

- Review client contracts for billing and payment terms (lump sum, cost , guaranteed maximum price)

- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards

- Implement and maintain a system of internal controls

- Email security best practices

- Provide guidance on technical accounting issues

- Monitor and review accounting and related systems for accuracy and completeness

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive financial performance and efficiency

- Maintain and comply with document retention requirements

- Maintain state registrations and contractor licenses

```Requirements```

- Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred

- Proven experience as a Controller

- Prior construction industry experience, commercial tenant finish preferred

- Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASC 605, and other accounting principles and standards

- Experience with ERP system, company utilizes Jonas Premier (tutorials are available)

- Proficient with Microsoft Suite products (Excel, Word, One Note) in addition to Adobe Acrobat DC

- Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting

- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

- Strong organizational and time management skills

- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

- Complex problem-solving skills

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Work closely with senior management to ensure financial directives are followed

- Ability to translate and communicate complex financial information into relatable and actionable information

- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

- Ability to work at a desk for long periods of time
