Maupin, Cox & LeGoy is Hiring a Legal Assistant/Paralegal Near Reno, NV

Job Description: The Legal Assistant/Paralegal is responsible for providing administrative support to an attorney on a day-to-day basis, as well as working closely with clients and other team members to ensure effective and timely attention to important legal matters.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare correspondence, contracts, estate planning documents, other documents and/or memoranda in draft and in final form from dictation, handwritten material, and typed copy;
  • Effective communication with all clients in a timely manner;
  • Assist in updating/revising wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents;
  • Assist with court filings, notices, pleadings and/or other documents for attorneys as requested;
  • Set up, maintain, and ensure that files (paper and electronic) are kept current including classifying, arranging files, filing, and storing information. Requests files from Records Department;
  • Provide administrative support to ensure a smooth daily workflow in order to meet project deadlines. This includes word processing, photocopying and scanning, processing of mail and performance of other clerical duties, scheduling of meetings, CLE seminars, and other events; create, edit, and proofread complex and practice-specific legal documents, forms, and correspondence to ensure accuracy and completeness;
  • Transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and memos for attorneys;
  • Upon request, enter attorney time in accordance with the Firm’s procedures and practices; coordinate with the Firm's billing department to facilitate attorneys’ timely review and return of monthly billing statements and invoicing of clients.

Specific Skills/Knowledge

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional writing and proof reading abilities
  • Effective communication skills
  • Mastery of the English language and grammar to allow for advanced writing and editing of legal documents
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Word Perfect, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Amicus Attorney, MS Excel, MS Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat is helpful

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma (required)
  • Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • Paralegal Certificate (preferred)
  • 5 years’ experience in a law firm or legal department (preferred)
  • Notary Public (preferred)
