DESCRIPTION

The Engineering Department Manager will lead a Regional Office for Matrix Technologies, an Automation and Multi-Discipline Engineering firm. This is a multi-faceted role that will provide the opportunity to lead and develop the Indianapolis location with the support of the greater Matrix organization. Duties include employee development, technical leadership and mentoring, hiring, project quality and sales and client management. While you will be strongly supported by the organization the role will require significant self-directed decision making and the ability to prioritize activities.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Work in a safe manner at all times and model a safety culture to all employees. Adhere to both Matrix and client established safety standards.
  • Assure the safety and welfare of the individuals within the department by making necessary arrangements for safety equipment, office equipment, and safe transportation to and from job sites, and creating an awareness of plant safety requirements.
  • In coordination with Matrix senior technical leadership, provide technical expertise within the department to meet the project and client requirements and support the training and technical direction necessary to develop department personnel to meet personal goals and client requirements. Inherent to this requirement is keeping up to date on the latest developments in products and technologies.
  • Direct duties associated with employee relations consistent with established policies and procedures to include: salary administration, personnel policy awareness, corporate policy awareness, performance appraisals, and employee counseling.
  • Establish and encourage regular cadence between local technical staff and counterparts from other Matrix offices to build and strengthen relationships across Matrix.
  • Develop and maintain action plans with other department and project managers for the efficient utilization of personnel and effective methods of design.
  • Administer budgets maintaining sensitivity to the interaction of projected sales to actual sales and project budgets to actual available funds for realization of Matrix’s corporate profit objectives.
  • In coordination with Matrix senior technical leadership, assure technical accuracy and soundness of engineering practices based on design criteria, specifications, and standards as related to the project requirements.
  • In coordination with the East Region Operations Manager develop departmental goals and objectives consistent with the Matrix corporate goals and marketing plan for identification of expertise required, manpower required, yearly budgets, yearly sales, goals, etc.
  • Manage projects as assigned in order to foster and maintain relationships with key clients, provide special handling of critical or at-risk projects, and to maintain familiarity with established project procedures.
  • Works with the East Region Management team and the Client Solutions and Success team to establish target clients and pursue opportunities.
  • Ability to present the capabilities of Matrix to clients and to develop and maintain long term client relationships.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Prior Work Experience:

  • Four-year ABET accredited engineering degree. MBA in management a plus.
  • Minimum six years of experience in engineering consulting experience and/or industrial control systems highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in a project-based environment.
  • 2 years of departmental management experience preferred.

Other Requirements (licenses, programs, certificates):

  • Professional Engineering Registration a plus
  • ISA CAP, PMP, CCNA or other controls-based credentials a plus

Travel Requirements:

  • North America travel or travel to alternate work sites will be required to support Matrix clients and projects.
  • Overnight travel will be required to support Matrix clients and projects as well as coordination with other Matrix offices and training opportunities.
