Lead Medical Assistant

Mat-Su Health Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant to join our team!

Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Primary Care Clinic Manager, the Lead Medical Assistant’s role is to optimize the proficiency and effectiveness of the medical support staff so that the medical team can achieve the highest standard of care. The Lead MA coordinates appropriate education and training to maintain medical support staff proficiencies and competencies and works to ensure the most effective use of provider time and department resources. Serves as a resource for FQHC personnel.

  • Responsible for overseeing the medical assistant staff and maintaining a professional atmosphere within the clinic.
  • Assist the Primary Care Clinic Manager in developing work assignments for the medical support team.
  • Monitors and reviews Medical Assistant work assignments.
  • Gives advice and work instructions and explains tasks. Checks work for accuracy and report results to the Clinic Manager.
  • Monitors the team's efficiencies, identifies barriers, and moves to eliminate them where possible. Reports barriers to Medical Support Staff Manager.
  • Research problems, missing data questions, or errors in information and provide resolution and correction.
  • Serves as the point of contact for medical assistants when calling in sick.
  • Provides sick/vacation leave backup for medical assistants and other clinic support staff when no other resources are available. 
  • Assists Clinic Manager with hiring, on-the-job training, role clarification, performance evaluation, coaching, and other personnel functions.
  • Along with the Staff RN and Clinic Manager, train or facilitate new and existing staff training. 
  • Assists Clinic Manager with department meetings and maintains meeting minutes.
  • Maintains office desk manual.
  • Run reports as requested.
  • Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes.
  • Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities.
  • Works with the Clinic Manager to oversee clinic work productivity, administrative tasks, and clinical care.
  • Work closely with the Billing Manager and/or coder to complete all required documentation to comply with billing and collection processes and procedures.
  • Oversees the coordination of visits by pharmaceutical representatives and the supply of medication samples.
  • Monitor patient education materials to ensure appropriate clinical content and quantities.
  • Serve as the point of contact for customer concerns and complaints.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with departmental directors and other managers;
  • Remain familiar with and adhere to published Agency policies.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and see, talk, or hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities this job requires include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience

  1. Current certification as a Medical Assistant 
  2. Minimum of five years of medical office experience.
  3. Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Current driver’s license; clean driving record
  • Current tuberculosis screening test result
  • First Aid and CPR certifications must be obtained within two weeks of hire.
