Job title: Donor Relations Specialist

Reports to: Development Director

Salary range: $40,000-48,000

FLSA status: Exempt

Position Summary:

The donor relations specialist celebrates the philanthropic impact of MD SPCA donors. They are responsible for reporting to donors the impact of their gifts, and they track effectiveness in retaining new donors and strengthening existing relationships. They create new opportunities capable of reaching diverse audiences of donors, volunteers, and partners. As part of the development team, the specialist shares responsibility for attaining annual and capital fundraising goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gather information and identify donor segments based on interests and behavior. Work closely with the individual giving team to develop donor journeys that address interests as well as capacity.
  • Plan and execute annual and capital campaign stewardship strategies that take donor constituency, giving level, and program restriction into account.
  • Maintain inventory of physical and virtual recognition opportunities and, in collaboration with marketing/communications and facilities teams, ensure timely production and installation.
  • Collaborate with the institutional giving manager, event, and marketing/communications teams to fulfill sponsor and donor recognition benefits. Track the package's ability to retain partners and increase giving. Replace less-effective benefits with new opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver the new donor welcome kit, acknowledgement letters, reports, surveys, year-end giving summaries, and other communications.
  • Manage customer service requests and notifications.
  • Identify new opportunities to demonstrate and celebrate philanthropic impact, which can include in-person and virtual experiences.
  • May be asked to serve on an events committee to integrate existing stewardship projects such as the William Woodward award and the No Place Like Home honoree to help achieve development goals.
  • Assist with other projects as assigned, including occasional evening and weekend meetings and events.

Qualifications:

  • Three to four years of development or marketing experience, related experience will be considered.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Comfortable engaging with donors at all levels.
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish confidence with stakeholders.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail and ability to be self-motivated.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRMs.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to flex hours to accommodate occasional weekend or evening events.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting, with some standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Use of computer and telephone.
  • Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to drive or otherwise commute to off-site meetings.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may be considered for hybrid or remote work after successful completion of a 90-day onboarding period.
  • Onsite work is usually performed in a shared office setting with occasional offsite meetings.
  • Occasional exposure to shelter pets which can includes:
    • Risk of scratches and bites.
    • Risk of exposure to high noise levels.
    • Exposure to disinfecting solutions when cleaning and to unpleasant odors.
    • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases.
