We Require

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One year of experience operating trucks and equipment

  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

  • State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver's license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety but may not specifically require a valid CDL

Job Contributions

  • Operate a variety of trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures

  • Haul materials and transport vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks

  • Perform manual labor assignments as needed

  • Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment; identify and report mechanical problems requiring additional repair

  • Complete required daily logs and prepare reports; attend safety meetings

  • Perform traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards and traffic problems

  • Complete daily written reports and enter information into the Cartegraph asset management system

Working Conditions

  • Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or up to 20 - 50 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

CDL Selection Procedure

  • Only the most qualified candidates will be considered

  • Successful candidates must undergo a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation, as required by statute or policy. This process includes mandatory drug and alcohol testing for positions designated as safety-sensitive

  • Commercial motor vehicles, various construction equipment, and hand tools

Protective Equipment Required

  • Hardhat, gloves, eye protection, steel-toed boots
