Title: Unit Manager/ Certified Dementia Specialty Unit

Department: Nursing

Reports To: Director of Nursing

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Summary: Provides support and supervision for the staff and is responsible for advocating and utilizing the nursing process in the care of each resident in accordance with all local, state, and Federal regulations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Must have experience with Long Term Care and Alzheimers and Dementia Units/CDP preferred
  • Assist in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing of your shift/unit's activities
  • Meet with administration, medical and nursing staff, as well as other related departments in planning department services, programs and activities.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that the department services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the patients
  • Assist in the development of and participate in programs designed for in-service education, on-the-job training and orientation classes for newly assigned department personnel. (Includes maintaining appropriate record-keeping requirements of when classes were conducted, subject matter, attendance, etc.)
  • Maintain an excellent working relationship with the medical profession and other health-related facilities and organizations.
  • Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of patient care plans, patient assessments, etc., as necessary.
  • Complete required record keeping forms upon patient admission, discharge, transfer, etc.
  • Review complaints and grievances and make necessary oral/written reports to the department director.
  • Make independent decisions regarding nursing care.
  • Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible unit /shift personnel.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the department director concerning the operation of the nursing unit/shift.
  • Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing your nursing unit/shift.
  • Assist the charge nurse, and other nursing personnel in performing nursing procedures as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Must possess Massachusetts Nursing License, RN preferred
  • Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years experience, Long term care experience preferred.
  • Must have CDP for dementia certification
  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to hospital and nursing home operation
  • Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Must be CPR and IV Certified

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $77,000.00 per year
