LOUISE S MCGEHEE SCHOOL is Hiring a Middle and Upper School French Teacher Near Orleans, LA

Description

The Louise S. McGehee School is now accepting applications for a dynamic, innovative full-time Middle and Upper School French Teacher who enthusiastically invests his or herself in all aspects of the language education process and the school-wide community. Qualified candidates will possess an educational background in French and will have at least two years of classroom teaching experience, ideally in an all-girls or independent school setting. A master’s degree in education or language-related field is preferred.

About McGehee School

Louise S. McGehee School is a private independent all-girls school for Pre-K through grade 12 and open to all qualified girls regardless of race, religion, national or ethnic origin. The academic program in the upper school offers students the opportunity to prepare for the challenges of college by providing challenging classes at an individual pace for every student. Because of McGehee's low teacher to student ratio, faculty members tailor their curriculum to meet their students’ progress and interests. The working environment is supportive and collegial with an emphasis on flexibility and exploration. This full-time faculty position includes a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits program. The expected start date for the position is the 2024-2025 school year (beginning August 1, 2024).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a passion for teaching and learning with an exceptional understanding of the middle and upper school levels and adolescent development, including age-appropriate techniques and technologies and strong classroom management skills.
  • Create and design dynamic, sequential lesson plans in line with the department’s philosophy on student-centered practices, workshop-based methods, independent reading and writing, inquiry-based activities, and creative thinking.
  • Emphasize communication skills and cultural competency in the broader francophone world.
  • Meet the individual needs of the students through differentiated instruction and advance their learning in reading comprehension and analysis, vocabulary, discussion, grammar, aural, and oral skills.
  • Communicate regularly and appropriately with the student, parent, advisor, and division head about student academic and social progress.
  • Use rubrics and assessments in line with departmental expectations to assess students on a regular basis and communicate with students and parents about their progress.
  • Act as a flexible and collaborative member of the community whose work expands beyond the classroom to enhance the student experience at the school.
  • Model a mindset of lifelong learning and the willingness to take risks that serve as growth opportunities.
  • Foster an open, inclusive learning environment that supports all students and their families through word, action, curriculum, and teaching strategies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive online class syllabus and curriculum guide.
  • Set clear expectations for students.
  • Advise a small group of middle or upper school students each year, acting as the point person for these students and their families, leading progress report conferences, building a sense of community in the advisory group, and teaching advisory topics that support middle school girls in building a sense of agency, self-awareness, self-discipline, and citizenship.
  • Fulfill assigned duties to monitor students in various capacities, as designated by middle school protocols.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate with administration, faculty, students, and parents.
  • Actively participate as a member of the middle school faculty and the greater school community.

Requirements
