Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Nursing Director, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists the physician or Registered Nurse (RN) in the care and treatment of Little River Medical Center patients. The LPN shall perform a variety of complex sub-professional nursing tasks and related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Relations:
  • Charts and records the administration of medication and treatment; observes patients for deviations from normal behavior (condition).
  • Performs specific procedures (reading of vital signs, weight, height measurements and other diagnostic tests) in accordance with protocols established by the administrative or clinical directors.
  • Provides reassurance/comfort, support to apprehensive patients.
  • Answers patient questions concerning the Center and/or the treatment he/she receive (has received) as needed.
  • Administers routine oral, subcutaneous and intra-muscular medications following Center policies and procedures.
  • Promotes optimum rehabilitate nursing care for patients.
Staff Relations/Team Support:
  • Assists physicians and/or nurses with patient examinations and treatment.
  • Performs other nursing tasks under the direction of the Nursing Director or lead provider.
  • Discusses patient’s progress and needs with physicians, RN and/or other appropriate paraprofessional staff as required.
  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Quality Manager/Nursing Director/CEO.
Clinical Duties:
  • Records (procedural) data in medical record and completes other necessary forms in accordance with established guidelines/procedures.
Safety/Infection Control Activities:
  • Maintains examination and treatment rooms in orderly condition and insures that they are kept well stocked with the required supplies according to current standard operational procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, therapeutic environment for the patient.
Other Activities:
  • Perform such other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing and one (1) year of practical nursing experience, preferably in an ambulatory health care setting.
  • Must be familiar with general office procedures.
  • Must observe office protocol in performing routine duties.
  • Should possess considerable knowledge of practical nursing practice and procedures.
  • Should have thorough knowledge of basic health and safety practices, sanitation and personal hygiene.
  • General knowledge of human anatomy.
