School Dental - Pediatric Dental Assistant - Level I / Expanded Duty
POSITION SUMMARY
The Dental Assistant is the dentist’s chair side helper who assists with patient care as required; (and may act as a front office dental receptionist in the Expanded Duty Dental Assistant role).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in basic supportive chair side procedures.
  • Chart existing restorations, clinically missing teeth and appliances within the oral cavity.
  • Apply topical drugs as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Place and remove rubber dam.
  • Place and remove matrix.
  • Place and remove orthodontic ligatures.
  • Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, etc.).Expose radiographs upon completion of a Board approved radiation safety course.
  • Place and remove periodontal packs.
  • Remove sutures.
  • Follows OSHA standards.
  • Maintaining auto-claving instruments.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies for dental office.
  • Maintains Center confidentiality and Code of Compliance per policy
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Expanded Duties:
  • An Expanded Duty Dental Assistant is a dental assistant who is a graduate of an American Dental Association accredited dental assisting program or one who has completed two (2) years of continuous full-time employment as a chair side dental assistant.
  • Takes impressions for study models.
  • Place and remove socket dressing.
  • Place gingival retraction cord.
  • Place temporary restorations.
  • Cement temporary crowns or bridges.
  • Remove excess cement from restoration and/or appliances.
  • Polish restorations and supra-gingival tooth structure.
  • Application of pit and fissure sealant.
  • Monitor nitrous oxide anesthesia upon completion of a Board approved course and certification by the Board and skill assessment by dentist with LRMC.
  • Functions as dental receptionist, makes appointments, answers phones, and sends reminder notices and other receptionist duties as requested.
  • Completes pre-authorization requirements. Insures encounter form complete and coding put in computer. Responsible for insurance billing for dentist.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains Center confidentiality and Code of Compliance per policy.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED and a graduate of an approved Dental Assistant program.
  • Previous experience as a chair side dental assistant is desirable.
  • Typing, secretarial, bookkeeping, receptionist and or other skills are desirable.
