Duties:

• Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
• Taking dental radiographs (x-rays)
• Asking about the patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse
• Serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
• Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
• Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling)
• Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health;

(e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)

• Taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth)
• Performing office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer
• Logging and tracking the progress of lab cases; auditing the progress of incomplete lab cases; ensuring the delivery/acceptance of lab records for processing
• Communicating with patients and suppliers (e.g., scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing and ordering supplies)
• Organizing and stocking operatories, sterilization, the lab and the supply closet according to office protocols
• Managing supply orders with the approval of the dentists and office manager
• Helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery
• Assist in basic supportive chairside procedures
• Chart existing restorations, clinically missing teeth, and appliances within the oral cavity
• Apply topical drugs as prescribed by the dentist
• Place and remove rubber dam
• Place and remove matrix
• Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, etc.)
• Expose radiographs upon completion of a Board approved radiation safety course
• Remove sutures
• Take impressions for study models
• Place and remove socket dressing
• Place gingival retraction cord
• Place temporary restorations
• Cement temporary crowns or bridges
• Remove excess cement from restoration and/or appliances
• Polish restorations and supra-gingival tooth structure
• Application of pit and fissure sealants
• Monitor nitrous oxide anesthesia upon completion of a Board approved course and certification by the BoardClinical Setting:

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
