Position Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Controller
Schedule: Full Time - 40 hours; Mon-Fri (8 am - 5 pm PST) / Remote or local (Portland-based)
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Purpose:
Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets, providing insights into financial performance and variances.
Collaborate with department heads to gather relevant information for accurate forecasting.
General Ledger Management:
Oversee and manage the general ledger, ensuring proper coding, classification, and documentation of financial transactions.
Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts to maintain accuracy.
Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
Compliance and Auditing:
Ensure compliance with accounting principles, legal requirements, and industry standards.
Facilitate and support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct detailed financial analysis, identifying trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
Provide recommendations for process improvements based on financial insights.
Others:
Mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support.
Foster a collaborative and positive work environment within the accounting team.
As appropriate, coordinates with the software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities:
Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software (QBO, Bill, ADP Workforce Now), Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite ERP systems and ticketing systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines by having excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
Three to five years of accounting experience is required.
Medical field experience preferred (not required).
Fast growth and scaling experience.
