Lenox Hill Neighborhood is Hiring a Food Service Worker Near New York, NY

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 130-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness—which significantly improve the lives of 16,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Salary: $48,500

Under the supervision of the Food Services Manager, the Food Service Worker is responsible for ensuring that the Lenox Hill Food Services department meets its goal of providing nutritious, quality meals for clients and, when appropriate, staff and other members of the Lenox Hill community. This Food Service Worker will perform duties for our two Senior programs (which serve breakfast, lunch and dinner) and our Early Childhood Center. The Food Service Worker must be flexible and adaptable to change to support the changing nature of the Neighborhood House’s Food Services department.

The Food Service Worker’s primary responsibilities are providing assistance to the cooks by helping with meal preparation, grocery delivery, washing dishes and clean up. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support Cooks in preparing meals, washing dishes, and all cleaning up at end of meal service and staff events.
  • Familiarize themselves with food service needs for the day and upcoming days to ensure that all production needs are met. 
  • Ensure that safety guidelines in the kitchen are followed at all times. Comply with all food handling procedures, those of the Department of Health as well as those of the Neighborhood House.
  • Ensure that proper sanitation and cleaning schedules are adhered to regularly. 
  • Assist with receiving and properly storing all food deliveries. 
  • Maintain current Food Handling certificates and adhere to departmental dress code.
  • Maintain composure and work effectively in a busy work environment. 
  • Adapt to floating and working in two kitchens in separate adjacent buildings as needed.

In addition to the above, the Food Service Worker will perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein as assigned by the Food Services Manager.

Hours of Operation: 
The Food Service Worker will work full-time on weekdays from 11:00 am.- 7:00 pm and on weekends from 7 am-to 3 pm. The schedule will also vary to ensure the best coverage of food services functions, flexibility is required. 

Qualifications: 
High School diploma or GED plus a minimum of one year of food service experience. A Food Protection and Sanitation certificate from the New York City Department of Health. The Food Service Worker must be open to career growth and willing to participate in trainings offered.
