Lenox Hill Neighborhood House operates two Older Adult Centers, the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House and the Older Adult Center @ Saint Peter’s Church, serving adults 60 and older from diverse backgrounds and abilities (from the very active to the very frail) residing in New York City. The Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House provides an incredible array of expansive programming that attracts 350 seniors daily while providing a broad range of invaluable public health, case management, fitness and aquatics, health and wellness, arts and culture, education and socialization activities, 7 days a week. The Older Adult Center @ Saint Peter’s Church, the only center in East Midtown, attracts 150 seniors daily, serving farm-to-table lunch and offers a full schedule of social, educational, recreational, health, and unparalleled arts and cultural offerings 5 days a week.

The Community Transportation Coordinator will be an integral member of our Older Adult Centers, joining other administrative staff, social workers, program assistants and numerous volunteers who serve our members each day. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Community Transportation Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the transportation services and programs offered at the Older Adult Centers, including cultural and shopping trips and our Community Companions program and will coordinate and oversee volunteers and interns involved in providing services through the Community Companions program. These are vital services to keep our Older Adult community connected and thriving! 

The Community Transportation Coordinator will: 

  • Interface daily with members providing excellent customer service, fielding questions and responding to member needs 
  • Coordinate operations and administration of transportation programs and services, including ensuring accurate programming data is recorded in the correct database 
  • Lead our Community Companions program, which matches volunteers with Older Adult members to accompany them to medical appointments, errands and more. 
  • Plan and lead culturally diverse educational, recreational, arts, cultural and shopping activities and trips for the Older Adult Centers with an understanding of the unique needs of older adults.
  • Recruit, screen, train and manage volunteers for our transportation programs 
  • Track and record the hours contributed by Older Adult Center volunteers, meeting all required deliverables and ensure timely documentation of all services provided in appropriate databases and systems 
  • Facilitate and lead programs and events with our Older Adult Center members onsite
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to coordinate and communicate about trips and transportation opportunities 
  • Cultivate and maintain ongoing partnerships with community and cultural institutions across New York City
  • Help facilitate the day-to-day operations of our Older Adult Centers and ensure they are conducted by our high-performance standards and government regulations 
  • Collaborate with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s staff from a variety of departments and disciplines 
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Director of Older Adult Centers 

Qualifications:

Theideal candidate for the role of Community Transportation Coordinator thrives in a highly social and busy community setting and is committed to working with older adults to improve their quality of life. The person should possess excellent organizational, customer service and administrative skills and be detail-oriented, resourceful and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. As part of a collaborative staff, the person must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and be a team player.

The Community Transportation Coordinator must be willing and able to work a full-time schedule that will generally span Monday - Friday from 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Working knowledge of technology and transportation applications, such as Uber and Lyft, is required. Fluency in Chinese or Spanish strongly preferred. 

Salary: $62,500 annually
