Small but busy solo practitioner law office that focuses almost exclusively on bankruptcy law is seeking a detail-oriented, hard-working Part-Time Administrative/Legal Assistant. Hours will range from 15 to 25 per week, Monday through Friday. Approx 3-5 hours per day, though times/days may be flexible. The Part-Time position may potentially lead to a Full-Time position. No legal experience is necessary, but a desire to learn and to be self-motivated is essential.
Although prior legal or office experience is not necessary, the right candidate must be able to communicate effectively with people in a professional, warm and positive manner. You must be self-directed, and have strong organizational, time management, writing and problem solving skills. Maintaining a positive and professional attitude, while multi-tasking and taking directions in a sometimes high stress environment, is crucial. Confidence is essential, and the proper candidate must also be empathetic and open minded.
The assistant will be responsible for answering the phone and returning calls, greeting and accepting payments from clients, reviewing mail, preparing mailings and making trips to the post office. Duties will also include maintaining the office calendar, drafting correspondence, general clerical duties, gathering documents from clients and sending documents to the appropriate destination. The ideal candidate will regularly interact and communicate professionally with clients and creditors, and occasionally opposing counsel and court staff.
