Once Agency, One Mission: Public Safety
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is seeking a P.O.S.T. Certified Peace Officer to play a critical role in serving as Civil/Front Desk Deputy (Deputy Desk). This position provides a crucial role for the Civil Unit and front desk operations. 
In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of public service tasks, such as reception, fingerprinting, sex offender registration, concealed carry weapon registration, crime and loss reporting, and providing information to the public. Desk Deputies will handle walk-in calls for service while ensuring building access and security are maintained. Additionally, duties involve fieldwork, driving emergency vehicles, obtaining rifle certification, serving civil papers, and conducting evictions. 
The ideal applicant will perform all Deputy Certified duties, have strong customer service skills, and be able to think quickly and critically. Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification is required.

Please note - this reimbursement is taxable.

GI Bill- Applicants that are previous military and are GI Bill eligible may qualify to be reimbursed through your GI Bill during the training period for this position.

Buddy Bonus If you and a friend apply at the same time and are hired, you each receive $500 bonus after completing our mini-academy graduation. This reimbursement is taxable. We currently have openings for Patrol Deputy and Jail Deputy!

Specifically, this position:

  • Effectively communicates to provide information, directions, mediations, and de-escalate situations and resolve conflicts.
  • Provides information about Sheriff's Office operations, procedures, and regulations; assists in person or on the phone.
  • Enforces and ensures building security; maintaining visitor logs and appropriately screening visitors.
  • Prepares various reports. Processes, files, labels, alphabetizes reports as appropriate.
  • Determines when there is reasonable suspicion to detain, when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used, and to what degree.
  • Effects arrests and processes and transports prisoners using handcuffs and other restraints
  • Subdues resisting suspects using approved techniques of arrest control, defensive tactics, and weapons; resorts to the use of hands, feet and other approved weapons in defense of self or others.
  • Conducts physical searches of arrestee(s) and transports to the Jail.
  • Collects fees, issues receipts, and maintains a cash box.
  • Maintains accuracy, confidentiality, and security of all records and work area.
  • Enters information into the NCIC/CCIC system.
  • Administers serviceable set of fingerprints.
  • Collects and logs evidence according to the Sheriff’s Office policy.
  • Conducts Vehicle Identification Number checks; tracks abandoned impound vehicles and prepares paperwork to be forwarded for disposition.
  • Administers sex offender registrations collects fees and registration forms and maintains sex offender books.
  • Performs crisis intervention activities to include, suicide prevention, recognizing and addressing abnormal behavior.
  • Loads, unloads, aims, and fires handguns, shotguns, and other agency firearms under conditions of stress that justifies the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards.
  • Performs all Deputy Certified duties in an emergency or occasional approved situation.

Nonessential Functions

  • When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.
  • Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification required.
  • First aid and community CPR certificates required within 12 weeks from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License required.
  • No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado P.O.S.T. required.
  • NCIC certification within the first month of hire required.

Schedule:

40-hours per week, Monday - Friday, generally 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Potential for other hours if needed.

Other Information to Note:

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
