The Role

The Business Development Representative is responsible for the overall sales activities in the U.S. The role is responsible for the establishment and growth of sales and the acquisition of new clients in the US and works with the executive management and strategy team to establish sales plans and initiatives to meet company objectives. You will partner with the management team to ensure the best possible service and effective communications to clients. You will be responsible for all data capture of sales data including but not limited to accounts, contacts, deals, notes, contract terms in addition to review and analysis of sales intelligence and reporting.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops annual sales plan that is complementary with the strategic plan in cooperation with the executive management and strategy team 
  • Implements and executes sales plans, policies and practices across the organization
  • Manages annual, quarterly, and monthly sales objectives 
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating sales pipeline
  • Ensures that the CRM program is kept up to date with ALL sales contacts made by the salesperson(s) and others as may be added to the Sales team as well as information provided by other employees. Establishes a protocol approved by the CEO for capturing and maintaining this information
  • Develops qualified new prospects to support the generation of new sales, through lead generation and marketing activities 
  • Attends sales and marketing events, trade shows and conferences, develops, and gives presentations and demonstrations of company services and products
  • Expected to be knowledgeable of market and industry trends, competitors and leading customer goals and objectives
  • With the Marketing department (or other members as designated), ensures sales activities and communications are coordinated and support sales plan objectives 
  • Works with marketing and strategy teams to recommend sales strategies for improvement based on market research and competitor analysis
  • Manages the sales pipeline and conducts regularly scheduled sales pipeline review sessions and resource planning sessions reporting results weekly to executive management and strategy team 
  • Works with marketing and strategy teams to develop strategies to penetrate emerging markets (wind, solar, public infrastructure, electric transmission and hydrogen), as well as ways to shorten the respective sales cycle 
  • Prepares list of prospects for services from leads in publications, from old accounts records and from networking activities 
  • Calls on industry contacts to obtain information and develop new leads. Uses additional information to qualify leads 
  • Calls on qualified leads and prospects; presents outlines of services and introduces current offerings or promotions 
  • Conducts follow-up calls along with senior operations personnel who will provide subject matter expertise in their area of expertise
  • Listens carefully to customers and relays information in a constructive manner to the appropriate operations or other management team members and helps to resolve any client concerns
  • Communicates new product and service opportunities, special developments, information or feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate team members
  • Prepares presentation materials and PowerPoints as needed 
  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment, in order to facilitate positive team member morale, productivity and continued improvement

Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • A minimum of 5 years proven experience in a sales, business development, or customer-facing role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build rapport and establish trust with potential clients
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, contracts, company policy, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations and formulate appropriate recommendations for business actions based on understanding of the same
  • Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, company policy and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Excellent mathematical skills including experience with calculating discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with CRM software and sales methodologies
  • Knowledge of the industry and market trends, data and how to analyze data and trends
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Proficiency in using various online tools and platforms for research and lead generation
  • Bachelors degree in business or related field
  • 10 years' experience in Land, Right of Way, Engineering, Environment or Surveying
  • Valid Driver's license required
  • Use of vehicle for business purposes
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet internal and external deadlines
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, throughout North America
  • Valid passport and driving license
