Position Summary
The Graphic Designer reports to the Director of Branding and Design in the Office of University Marketing & Communications (UMC). This position serves as a graphic designer for the university providing creative solutions to all areas of the University in support of strategic objectives. This role provides support ranging from implementation of unique designs, for internal messaging campaigns, external advertising campaigns, digital marketing, direct marketing and collateral, web/email visual support, animated design, and photographic direction.
The role supports the Director, serving to produce cohesive designs consistent with the La Salle University brand throughout the prospective student lifecycle, student experience, and commencement, as well as for alumni and development events and initiatives.
Essential Duties
  • Ability to provide strategic creative solutions, keeping in mind the mission and strategic goals of the department and University; properly analyze, assess and respond to needs of partners across the University.
  • Effectively shepherd and execute timely, efficient and effective creative design for digital, print, mobile, social, and traditional mediums.
  • Develop creative, timely, and bold concepts for marketing and branding projects with a keen eye for a simple, strong design.
  • Develop and execute creative concepts and designs that meet brand guidelines. Update brand guidelines as they evolve.
  • Have a conscious approach to align design, visuals and message across all mediums, campaign efforts, and in alignment with the brand.
  • Assist in the development of specifications for printed pieces that can be used to obtain quotes and samples from printers and assist with managing vendor relationships to achieve the most cost-effective approach.
  • Create new designs, storyboards, and visual concepts as needed for campaigns and key publications to maintain a unified look across print and web pieces.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in UMC and across the University to ensure that the visual identity of the brand is maintained while delivering high-quality design.
  • Deliver assets on deadline and communicate any issues far in advance to allow for problem-solving in an adequate timeframe.
  • Maintain all design projects within the departmental project management software, leveraging the tool to track workload and manage approvals.
  • Index, file, and maintain creative assets in a way that is easily accessible and identifiable to all team members.
  • Maintain a high degree of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy of all deliverables.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Manage special projects and/or serve on committees as requested by the Director of Branding and Design
  • Assist with key University events as needed

Required Qualifications
  • BFA / B.A. in design, digital art, or related degree
  • Must have at least two years of design and production experience
  • Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in maintaining and managing vendor relationships
  • Excellent ability to explain and support the thinking and rationale for design choices
  • Expert knowledge of print and digital production and optimizing final files for delivery
  • Ability to view work across media holistically and while applying brand consistency
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Solid understanding of traditional offset printing and digital printing options as well as paper sourcing, file prep and vendor management.
  • Understand type choices, photography, composition and illustration principals and foundations
  • Able to take design direction and positively respond to feedback
  • Strong asset management and organization skills for file management
  • Solutions-focused orientation with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling shifting priorities
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Proficient in the use of the Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, as well as Microsoft Office and Teams, Project Management and Cloud Collaboration software
  • High comfort level in using technology to optimize workflow and business processes.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exceptional skill in the use of the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrable skill in print, digital, and animated design is essential.
  • Project and vendor management experience.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
  • May be required to attend and assist in key events such as commencement.
  • May need to sit for extended periods and work in an office environment.
